There's nothing sweeter, and finer...

Dec 05, 2009 21:16

The weather forecasts had all been predicting snow on Saturday. To the chagrin of some, they're not wrong. It's just a light snow, a couple inches, not likely to stick even a day, but it's paired with biting wind and occasional bouts of freezing rain. There have even been power outages reported across the state, though not in Gotham (yet ( Read more... )

A black figure trudges along the streets of Gotham.

A black beanie pulled low, covering the figure's ears and resting against his glasses. A long black scarf wrapped around the lower half of his face and neck. A long black wool coat. Black gloves. Black combat boots. Black jeans that might have black long underwear under them.

Dib is so cold it hurts. And now stuff is falling from the sky.

He watching it in terror from under the awning of the store he just left. Where he bought some of those chemical hand warmer packets.

Peter is not out in the snow. He is watching it, though, from the big, comfortable living room in Wayne's guest apartment. And feeling very much like a shut-in.

So, he'll do the shut-in thing and text his free friends.

Hey, CA boy. Liking the snow?

When does it stop? Soon?

Dib is not moving from under this awning.

Sometime in Jan. Welcome to the E. Coast.

And a moment later.

Still on house arrest.

This coast is stupid! And cold.

Dib curses into his scarf, warming his cheeks.

House arrest? With Dib's friends, Peter might need to explain.

Yet you moved here.

At Wayne's. No going out until J is in. Or until his hands heal. Whichever comes first.

It wasn't cold when Dib got here.

Is it warm there?

There's a pause here. Kind of a long pause.

In which Peter texts Bruce!
[I'm sorry to bother you, are you busy?]
[not much. problem?]
[Not a problem, just a question. Would it be okay for Dib Membrane to come over, just for an hour or so?]
[Don't let him go off on his own. Stay with him at all times.]
[of course. if he gets weird, I'll sic Aunt May on him.]
[god help him.]
[thank you]
And just one more thing... [Can we use the pool?]
[yes.]

[Very. Bring swim trunks.]

A pause wherein Dib will leave the shelter of the awning to shuffle to a new awning. This awning sells coffee. Coffee can provide warmth!

Can do!

Dib is just going to buy swim trunks. And not think about harems.

Smart Dib. Peter is assuming he knows where the Wayne Penthouse is. The barista probably does, if he doesn't. This is Gotham, after all.

The cab driver knows! Because cabs have heat too! So, after his coffee, running into a sportswear store to find trunks, and then hailing a cab, Dib ends up in the lobby of the building where the Penthouse is located.

I'm downstairs. What do I do?

Peter doesn't text back. Instead, he comes down to let Dib up. The doorman knows him, by now, but he's still deferential about living here. And his hands are bandaged to the elbow.

"Mister Wayne said he could come by, Sylvester. He's with me." With a nod from Doorman Vester, Peter invites Dib into the elevator, and pushes the button for the forty-first floor.

Dib is unwrapping himself. First the scarf gets unwrapped, then stuffed in the hat, along with the gloves. "Nice place."

"Yeah, it's kinda... awesome." He smiles, only a little reluctantly. "But I'm going through some serious gilded cage syndrome right now. Haven't been past Sylvester since I got here."

Dib nods. A careful eye might notice he's not looking very uncomfortable. He might be more comfortable in these surroundings then most people assume. "That's annoying. But possibly not a bad idea. And Wayne's place has got to be safe."

"Yeah." So very, very safe. "Now that he's done throwing parties for a while. And Aunt May feels secure." His voice says that's really the important things.

"Oh, and there's no harem."
