After several days, of necessary procedures, of detox and medical treatment, one Dr. Jonathan Crane is delivered, in full restraints, to Arkham Asylum. While many of the max security patients have made their escape, this one hasn't even been held captive for long enough to be placed in max security. Here he is, if they can keep hold of him ( Read more... )

The days Crane spent in the hospital, Giles spent going over the file House dropped off on his desk. It's very incomplete. Which is just annoying, but not unexpected. Giles doesn't think he can even trust the evaluation done when Crane came to work at Arkham.

So, once he's heard that Jonathan is situated in his cell, he'll arrange to have him taken to a therapy room. Why not get this started as quickly as possible?

So, now he's sitting in a therapy room, instead of sitting in his cell. Presumably, hopefully, he's restrained, because he will struggle if given the chance. He'll calm down, though, and wait quietly, to see what they're going to try to do with him, now.

So very restrained. Because he's proven to be slippery and much harder to recatch.

Giles is going to try to figure out how Jonathan's brain works. To figure out what to try to pump into it to get it to work a 'functional in society' way. Hopefully. He comes in with a copy of the file he was given in a plain manila folder. No pens, no notebooks.

"Dr. Crane." As if there's a chance Giles has the wrong room. "My name is Dr. Giles." And you can guess why he's here...

Crane looks up, neither smiling or scowling, but his stare could bore holes. Go on. Try to pry into his mind.

"Hello, Dr. Giles," he says, after a brief pause, a break in eye contact. "How are you doing, this afternoon?"

"I'm well." He's still kicking himself about acting like a fool on Halloween and worried about Harley's safety. But Crane doesn't need to know that. "I assume you know what I'm here for, and any pleasantries or inquiries to your health and well being might be taken as an insult. Would you prefer to simply begin with the standard new patient test, or would you prefer to ask questions about your treatment plan?"

Giles is sure Crane would either lie or simply refuse to do the test, but the conversation it may start is much more interesting.

"After all that's happened, you're doing well." He quirks a brow. "If you would care to take a seat, we can begin." He can't gesture, so he glances, instead, and continues to avoid eye contact, after that, studying his reaction out of the edge of his gaze. "And you can tell me about your qualifications... why they've brought you here."

Crane being willing to talk, even if it's just to get information, is a relief. Well, not a relief. A good sign, perhaps.

Giles sits, but isn't going to comment on all that has or hasn't happened to him and why he's gotten through it 'well'. "For my qualifications, I attended Oxford University and received Ph.D.'s in Medical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine, followed by a Doctorate in Psychiatry." Giles might be listing this off like he's in a jon interview. And watching Crane avoid eye contact. "I worked at Broadmoor Hospital for nearly fifteen years, and spent the last four years there heading The Paddock Centre."

"And then you came... here..." He looks back at him, with either amusement or derision.
"Are you enjoying your work? I know this is quite the challenging job environment."

"I wanted a change in scenery." Sure he did. New Jersey is where every Briton dreams of living. "I am. It's very challenging and stimulating."

"Yess. The scenery here is lovely." After that, he doesn't offer any further continuation of the conversation. Perhaps he is now bored. Perhaps he doesn't approve.
