Halloween Night

The Scarecrow doesn't have the Joker's knack for rallying a mob. He operates best by himself, anyway. He will gladly observe whatever chaos the Joker manages to stir up, but his real work for the evening is his alone ( Read more... )

Adrian is down on the ground floor of his building, now, helping employees in gas masks manage this mess as best as they can. All they can do, really, is create quiet, calm places, and try to keep the people inside them quiet and calm. If the toxin makes anyone violent, they need to be separated right away, and that, and general panic, are not easy to deal with, not by a long shot. The clown's thugs intentionally causing more panic are a whole other matter, and Adrian intends to keep them out.

They were told to cause chaos. They like to cause chaos.

A group of them see people moving around inside the big glass doors on the front of Veidt's offices. Quiet little hidden people.

That are not going to pleased when they start slamming into the glass, screaming and yelling and trying to break through.

Give'm all a scare. Send them screaming into the streets. That's what the boss wants.

Sadly, there are those who are doing their best... their increasingly more ragged, strained best... to keep 'the boss' from getting what he wants. Parts of town like those Veidt's offices are located in are less of a concern than poorer areas, for the most part -- they're bound to get more, and better, police protection -- but Veidt has opened his doors to victims and asylum-seekers, and when he caught wind of a group headed this way, he was determined to keep them from doing any damage.

They're making a scene against the window when he dfinds them, making noise and trying to break into the interior. Scare tactics. He can match them with his own. Off of the bat-pod and up to the nearest moderately high building, and not even a pause to breathe before he's leaping down again. He catches one, two, nearly three of them with a flying kick as he glides down from his observation point, and tumbling off of them, landing on his feet, turns to face the rest.

They are not going to come in here. Adrian heads for the windows without any fear. He's calm, and only showing a little anger in his expression, enough to properly show these violent fools that he is not impressed.

He's about to go outside, and then, there's the vigilante chasing them. There are a lot of them out there, though, and seeing as how these people may well decide in is the best way to go to get away, he only pauses a moment before pulling open the door and stepping outside.

It could be a sign of some of their mental states that a few don't even notice the large man in a bat-suit that took out their fellows. They keep happily pounding on the windows and hooting.

The others turn toward the vigilante. Some scatter. Most don't. The rush him, swinging weapons they've picked up or empty fists. A few even hold out cans of gas.

The ones still at the windows boggle at Adrian coming outside. One even murmurs a "Trick or Treat" before raising his can of gas.

He wouldn't have thought Veidt to be one for heroics. But then, there's a lot that man keeps hidden. He's even... he knows for a fact... a rather skilled hand-to-hand combatant. But just because he can fight, doesn't mean he should have to. That's not his job.

Batman catches the arm of a man in a latex mask, swinging him into two others and knocking the lot down. Pushing off from that, he uses the leftover momentum to swing back the other way, aiming a batarang at the hand of the man preparing to gas Veidt.

"Get back inside!" he shouts to him, his voice sounding worse than usual.

He stands his ground, between the glass door and the thugs, because the thing is... these idiots are playing with clouds of toxic chemicals, and it's one thing to dispense that sort of thing in an open area, and another thing to do so in front of a wall that's going to block the cloud from spreading anywhere but right back at them. He will stick with the heroics, Batman. There is a time and a place for them.

The thug with the gas smiles at Veidt, like a child holding a can of silly string. When the batarang smashes into his hand, sending the canister clattering away he howls. gripping his hand to his chest and stumbling back. His two compatriots that were standing by him shriek and run off towards the shadows. Batman plays too rough!

The three of the men who had been knocked to the ground stagger to their feet, eyes on Adrian. Much easier to take hostages when they come right to you. They rush toward him, one with a bit of chain and another with a novelty Knights bat.

He won't be able to get over there fast enough to keep the goons from getting to Veidt. But none of them are armed with gas canisters, or guns, just conventional melee weaponry. He'll just have to gamble on the man's skills being sufficient for him to at least hold his own until he deals with the assailants he's collected.

Shouldn't be too long. There's only six of them, after all. Even if six feels like a lot more right now than it did at the beginning of the night...

Veidt breaks his stance, abruptly, and moves like lightning. Grabbing the bat, pulling it free and swinging it forward to entangle the chain is practically one motion, and then it clangs against the street, tossed aside. He does not go on to attack these three, not unless they make any further move against him, and he is holding himself ready for that.

They seem very impressed. The one formerly holding the bat stares open mouthed for a moment before turning and running for his life. The other two will try their luck bare handed, rushing Adrian again, hands ready to grab his arms to try to pin them.

He holds just long enough for one of his remaining attackers to grab his arm, and uses the grab to get a grip on his arm, twisting and throwing him down.

He is very fast, no question there, but the other man manages to grab him while he's dealing with the first. Is he able to deal with two attackers? Will he lose his balance with his arm being pulled while throwing the first man to the ground?

The world spins and stops with a crack for the first man, balance off by an evening of interesting chemicals and other excitement. Unable to control his fall to the ground, his head bounced of the concrete, leaving him stunned.

His partner fairs better, gripping Adrian's arm and jerking him away from the fallen man. He's not sure what to do with Adrian now, though.

Adrian tips toward him, and if he were moving slower, it might look like he's going to fall, but he moves with the pull, and away from the window, yanking the third man away from the building and off his feet, tossing him down away from the discarded bat. Two down on the pavement. There. He looks up. Anything else?

As Adrian looks up from the last of his three, Batman is dealing with the last of his six, ducking to avoid a spiked pair of brass knuckles and then grabbing the arm the weighted hand is attached to, and throwing the unfortunate last assailant to the ground. He doesn't look like he'll want to get up any time soon.

The vigilante turns, cape whipping around him, to check on Veidt, and the rest of the situation. All three of them are taken care of? A better showing than he'd expected. That's worth noting. He tips his head at the man. A barely-nod of acknowledgment.

"You'll deal with them?"

"I'll deal with them. You're needed elsewhere." He would offer assistance, in whatever form that would take, but doesn't expect the vigilante to appreciate the offer. It should be obvious, anyway.

He folds his arms and keeps his attention on the thugs on the ground, just in case, but doesn't lower his head.
