If these people stopped having fundraisers as an excuse to throw parties, and actually did something, Gotham would be a better place. First of all, there would be less boring parties.

Sometimes, there are interesting people, though, interesting conversations or genuine opportunities. It is worth going for reasons other than maintaining appearances, or Adrian would put more effort into a solid excuse to avoid them.

Anyway, he's here, drinking something that is not alcohol, and eating something that is not meat.

Who needs excuses? Beside people who haven't spent time building up an image as a boorish idiot...

Not that that seems to be working out for Bruce. He's here too, after all. And appearing with surprisingly suddenness just behind Veidt.

"Adrian! Oh, hey! Are those samosas?"

Adrian doesn't notice Bruce before he speaks up, but he doesn't startle, either. "Ah, Bruce, yes. These are very good." Oh, thank god. Now he can pretend that he wants to be here along with Bruce. He smiles. "Enjoying the party so far?"

"I just got here, honestly. But if there's Indian food, that's got to be a good sign."

He briefly considers grabbing one of the little pouches of fried vegetable joy off of Adrian's plate, but -- no, that's too much for even him, really. "How about you?"

Bruce is probably allowed to grab food off his plate, considering there's plenty more where that came from, anyway. It'd be amusing, but manners are good, too.

"Quite a crowd, tonight, and the food is excellent, but I haven't been here for much longer than you have."

Some people don't react well to that, you know? Sometimes you get a fork in your hand for your trouble.

"Really? I'm going to have to start coming later, then, or my reputation's going to be shot." He looks around. "There are a lot of new faces, aren't there?"

"Yes, or you could come up with a suitably loud and dramatic reason for being late. I'm sure you can come up with something to overshadow everyone else's." Reasons like procrastinating showing up.

This is delivered in a friendly deadpan tone, like it's a perfectly acceptable and fine implication that this is an act.

Bruce chuckles and keeps smiling, unperturbed. Like he already knew that Adrian was going to make the implication. Or he just had a plan in place in case someone ever did. Or like he's missed there being an implication at all.

"Any suggestions? A helicopter and a supermodel on each arm only works so many times."

"Large animals work." He knows this from experience! This is not a serious nor responsible suggestion, Bruce. He sips some of his drink and regards the room. "Parachute in. Not with large animals."

"Yeah, way too much possibility for error there." Then you end up with a tiger on top of you, and... yeah. Ow. "Parachute, though, not bad. Tightrope-walking in from the next building over?"

"And climb in the window? There you have it. Or bring three supermodels. Broaden your horizons. Everyone's minds will be blown." Sip. "You can walk a tightrope?"

"Or someone who isn't even a model. Imagine the scandal." This is sort of fun, isn't it? Having someone to poke fun at these things with.

"How hard could it be?"

"Aha, and only one! Could we even stand to see such a thing?" Adrian never brings dates to these things. Maybe that's why Mrs. Fitz keeps inviting him. Whoops!

"They might cast me out. Into the vast, charity benefit-less wilderness." Sip. "Now I'm really tempted."

"There's potential in that for a program. How long do you think you'd last if you were dropped into the woods, upstate New York, right now?" He does watch a little too much TV.

Bruce has heard of this 'teevee' stuff. "Hmm. Depends. Am I allowed to look for civilisation, or just try and survive without going for help? And do I get any equipment?"
