I've been sick. Literally. This time yesterday I thought I wasn't long for this world. I tell you, heaving of guts is the worst feeling evah! My ribs are still aching, but, the world is back on an even keel and I am alive.
Alive I tell you.
Cor! You should have seen the frost this morning. The cars outside were covered. I had an inkling because the heating kept switching on all last evening and it hasn't been doing that since March. So, it looks like crisp Autumn days are among us. It looks beautiful today: clear blue skies and bright sunshine, but I bet it's a cold wind. Not that I'm going out to feel it. Bwah ha ha.
So, I was up during the night needless to say Monday to Tuesday and that meant I could watch Cliff Lee stuff the Yankees live and I see they did it again last night. Could the Rangers get to the World Series. I think he deserves it for the great game he pitched which I could appreciate between the head in bucket moments.
Sadly, the Phillies are struggling to make it there too having lost one game at home and then another in San Francisco. Their hitting is letting them down.
I have collected some pictures of players because, frankly, I find them amusing to look at.
First Pitchers and their hirsute deficiencies. i.e. are they all Menonites or can't they grow moustaches?
Hair star is of course TIM LINCECUM. HE HE HE
More beards!
And they're worth millions?
This one's OK
But....
He could have combed those flowing locks. Neat beard, straggly hair.
I shall keep an eye out for more to add to this rogues' gallery. They're all as bad as footballers for spitting though. Neftali Feliz (I think that's his name) could spit for his country and he's only 21.
Anyway, enough sport, especially as it will be interfering with
Bones from next week (sulk), and on to other televisual delights.
First, a delayed
Ugly Betty. I have had to switch viewing arrangements to Sunday because it is on at the same time as
Leverage and
Bones and I can't view all three, then the repeat is on at 10 which now clashes with
Lie to Me and
Mad Men. Meanwhile, Tuesdays? Nothing on. So Sunday it is.
Last week was another example of some truths coming out, some people getting back to where they were and some moving on to new things. So, the truth came out about who fathered Hilda's baby, what happened to Cal and Claire's baby and where Willie fit back into Mode. Which she did thanks to the new editor being caught on tape admitting she knew nothing about fashion. Things blew up between Claire and Daniel over Cal Hartley, but it all came out in the end on their side and Hartley was told to pack his bags and go after Claire realised that all he cared about was his money and reputation. The clincher came when he asked why she didn't just have the abortion instead of giving their baby up for adoption.
Matt was being very smothering in his relationship with Betty as was Marc's new toyboy, Troy, whom he slept with in the Bahamas and subsequently tried to get rid of. Sadly, he was new to the world of gay and saw Marc as the perfect boyfriend so Marc didn't want him to have a bad experience and was stuck. He's such a softy really.
Betty tried to broaden Matt's interest by exposing his artistic talents in a show. However, it backfired when the gallery owner displayed all of the peculiar portraits he had done of Betty. Matt was hurt but eventually she was able to convince him that she felt passion too, just not as overtly, by showing him her diary.
Hilda was leery of Bobby because of his reputation as a mob member. This was not helped when he made her a present of a giant tv that she assumed was stolen, and then her witnessing what she thought was a bribe to a cop. However, he was able to explain it as money he owed the cop. They still had a blazing row at the exhibition where she let it drop that she was pregnant to Bobby. Her father overheard of course. However, Bobby turns up trumps with a gift and the receipt. Looks like things are back on track all round.
I am enjoying this last season much more than I expected and especially Marc. He has been absolutely stellar in every episode. I also enjoyed the appearance of Betty's dentist Dr Farkas in this episode, who is of course played by the actor who is Mitchell in Modern Family. He was trying to get a date with Betty who had to tell him she already had a boyfriend. Farkas told her to find a new orthodontist. Ah the power of the man with the drill.
Now, a much delayed look at last week's Bones which was The Body in/and the Bounty.
Not much to say in the way of meta here. It was written by Michael Peterson, who I think writes proper Bones episodes. He was responsible for The Girl in the Mask and The Bond in the Boot. and less successfully The Devil in the Details. As with each of them the victim was interesting as was the method of disposal.
What was good about this episode? The episode was like a blast from the past. We started with bickering in the car about whether Bones could pull off a perfect murder, which she said she could, and whether Booth would catch her, which he said he would. No mention of current love interests, just focus on crime. That was probably the secret of the success of the episode. After some off kilter moments in the first three episodes this season this was old school
Bones, but with an added twist. This week's squintern was a scientist, but he was famous for being a television scientist on a kids programme: Professor Bunsen Jude, the Science Dude. He wanted Dr Brennan to appear on his show. Dr Saroyan wanted her to appear on his show. Dr Brennan refused unless he could prove himself to be a proper scientist. He examines the remains and then is sick in a waste paper bin. Loved it! But he comes back for more. I was pleased with how they handled the guest star without maing it too silly.
Hodgins is smitten and they even come up with a great experiment together. Even Bones has to be impressed and agrees to appear on the show. This turns out to be very funny, but we all laugh with Bones not at her in her silly outfit.
This however, was what made it real old Bones for me:
Look at that body language. Look at how their legs are crossed. Look where they are. Look at what he's eating. This moment is an 'ours' moment. Lovely. I feel better already.
I loved this:
How comfortable they were together. No eggshells to tread on.
This:
The genuine joy at this:
where Brennan entered so completely into the spirit of the thing that Booth felt this:
Happy? You bet. Shame Parker wasn't sitting on his knee. I thought he was trying to enrich his experience by exposing him to fun science. Never mind.
No doubt we'll be back to new mode this week, but I for one really enjoyed this episode. I was entertained, amused and able to overlook the gaping holes in the case, which fortunately Booth was able to solve in spite of being distracted by the beautiful bounty hunter.
Now then, what to have to eat? My appetite is returned and I think the weather calls for comfort food. Panackelty it is then. I have the tape set for a hectic night's viewing as Episode 1 airs tonight along with
Lie to Me, Leverage and
Mad Men + European football> I'll never cope!
