I wrote a teeny fluffy fic for Mikage's birthday. I DON'T PROCLAIM TO BE GOOD AT WRITING BUT
"Mikage," Teito said, with a soft tone of voice, setting a plate down. "Even if it might not be your birthday in this life, I wanted to celebrate it anyway... Happy birthday. Thank you for everything." Burupya chirped merrily and made his way over, pausing with indecision at the selection of treats laid out for him. He eventually picked up a cookie and began to nibble at it while Teito remained crouched down, regarding him fondly.
Hakuren looked on with a doubtful expression. "Teito, is it really a good idea to give that much food to Burupya, even if it is a special occasion?"
Teito did not turn to face him, but instead tilted his head and considered the matter while watching Burupya lick crumbs off of his paws. "Maybe... He might get fat."
"That's what you're concerned about..." Hakuren smoothed his robes as he knelt down beside the plate. "These aren't just leftover table scraps."
"It's all stuff he likes."
"But you're right," Hakuren mused, "he's really too little to eat all of this..."
"...We can all eat some." Teito picked up another cookie and held it out towards Hakuren with purpose. "It'll make Mikage happy too."
Hakuren blinked and stared at the cookie for a moment before gingerly accepting it. Sure enough, Burupya was looking up at him with intermittent prrts and encouraging eyes. "...I suppose."
"Right," Teito said, once again turning to smile at Burupya and picking up a sugar flower for himself. "Then... it's a birthday party."
Hakuren couldn't help but smile as he bit carefully into the cookie, remembering the elaborate productions of past birthday parties compared to this, kneeling with a friend and a baby dragon on the cold Church floor in an unoccupied corner. For Teito, munching the sugar flower obliviously, even something of this level must be more than he had had for a good stretch of his life. Burupya took another cookie in his mouth, then clambered up into Teito's lap to nibble at it contendedly. For his first birthday party, he thought this was exactly the right kind.
