I like families...?!
I basically know what my pings are; they're pretty obvious and I don't feel the need to list them. However I have been meaning to explore one of my surprise pings in depth for a while now :|a SO I SHALL!
FEATURING SPOILER WHITEOUT!
Akira: lol. The heir to a ninja clan! Her father doesn't appear on-screen, but he's a great influence in her life, and she kept people at a distance her whole life because of his orders, and if they got too close to her, she was ordered to kill them! [Until about episode 19, I was pretty sure that her father would be her MIP, even with everything about Takumi. Then again, in retrospect, I think a lot of her struggle was coming to terms with the fact that after living her entire life in the shadow of her father, she... cared for someone else more genuinely than she cared for the Okuzaki clan and the power of the star. Disobeying her father's orders for Takumi! ~symbolic?~]
Yumi: Her family is ADORABLEEEE guh. I love her relationship with her brother and her parents, and the way she's all tsuntsun about being compared to Yuuki but there are parallels there all the same and they act the same a lot. She doesn't have any actual ISSUES with her family but aaaaaa. Soeurs don't count as family, as they are obviously wives.
Ayaka: Her family is brushed upon but not really explored in depth. But her whole backstory chapter is about the big complex she got over her stillborn younger brother, and her whole thing for Negi and other cute little boys is supposedly like... projecting her desire to be a big sister.
Kinon: HER PARENTS ARE DEAAAAD we don't know anything about her relationship with them. But with her siblings! They used to travel together and do everything together as a team. They were the only allies they had in each other. But when peace settled in and everyone started leading normal lives, she felt disconnected from them and went off to do her own thing and more or less left them behind. There was this whole tsundere thing with Kittan trying to be protective of her and you don't understand meeeeee! [But in the end when Kittan dies she is sad about it. :((] Why did I white that out. Does anyone care about TTGL spoilers. Doesn't everyone know them already.
Midori: n/a! we know nothing about her family.
Yue: She took an interest in philosophy in the first place because she idolizes her philosopher grandfather. Other than that we don't really know much about her familyyy.
Shuri: :'D His entire identity is tied to his family name, and his entire life is tied to a dependence on his father... /o/!! I have essayed enough
Cecile: n/a! I don't remember anything about her family anyway.
Chie: also n/a!
Sealand: HIS MAIN GOAL IN LIFE IS TO OUTDO HIS BROTHER AND BREAK FREE!! they're brothers right? idk they're related somehow.
Kristoph: Actually doesn't have issues with his family so much as causing them in his brother. He's kinda control freak about Klavier, but he's control freak about everyone, and he uses Klavier, but... etc.
Lucca: She used to dislike her father because he devoted more of his time to science than his family, and then her mother was disfigured before her eyes due to one of his experiments :'D From then on she decided to go into science to stop any more such tragedies!! So her whole technogeek persona is due to her family. She's pretty close to her father ever since she decided to take up studying with him, and they make inventions together etc.
Tsukiumi: got a flashback chapter well after I apped, haha. SHE DID KINDA GET SOME SCIENCEY ISSUES FROM THAT. But she is kinda tsundere for her family figure as she is tsundere for everyone she likes.
Yuujirou: :D [I white out everything related to yuujirou's backstory and family issues just because I can. Anyway he really loves his family but he has all these ISSUESSSS with his mom remarrying where he doesn't feel like he's a part of their perfect family anymoreeeeee and he is so dere for his family god. Tohru makes some sort of comment along the lines of "he's usually so confident, but as soon as you bring up his family he becomes so vulnerable" and everything sob I LOVE IT]
Granby: SIMILARLY when Granby's family is brought up in the books, he gets kinda weird and his demeanor changes. He cares for his family and wants to protect them! But he's not really part of the family anymore, since they sent him away by necessity when he was 7. :x
Glenda: haaaaaahaha. While she's not like lolol ELMINA she definitely has issues of her own regarding her family...! She's the only one of the girls that has issues over her mother too. She IDOLIZES HER MOTHER!!! But she left their family years ago :/ And Glenda places the blame squarely on her father, who is such a doofus who doesn't live up AT ALL to what Glenda thinks is a great demon leader (read: ...her mother). AND AAAHHHH! 8( SHE IS SO FRUSTRATED WITH HER FAMILY SITUATION
T-Rex: ... he does have family members mentioned in the comic but do you think I can take this comic seriously enough to do psychological analysis of the characters in it. ANSWER: NO
I hope I didn't forget anyone I apped. So that's... a lot. more. than I even realized. Anyway, in general, I really like characters with identities significantly shaped by their families, or a split between the personal self and the self their families expect of them, or just with PINGS! :x idk why! But it is a THING, whether they regard their families positively or negatively. family dynamics!!!!!!!! ok the end this was all just self indulgent
