Procrastination

How long has Gordon been gone now? Two hours? Three? Long enough for it to get well and truly dark out, if the (now working, finally) control room monitors are anything to go by. That's the only indication Alyx currently has of the passage of time.

Not that it really matters. Alyx is deeply engrossed in the process of piecing together the Borealis's navigation systems. Given that the controls were only half-assembled when the ship spirited itself away, and that they've sat without cleaning or maintenance for three and a half decades, it's no easy task. The fact that Alyx hasn't slept in about twenty-four hours doesn't help, either.

But that doesn't deter her in the slightest. She's gone without rest for longer periods before. She can sleep when the job's done--or, better yet, when the job's done and they're all safe and sound back at White Forest.

Of course, there's another reason why she's burying herself in work. If she wasn't, she'd have to do that other job she has waiting. The one that was her excuse for coming on this mission in the first place.

( "I need to find Judith and tell her myself. I owe her that." )
