Brad and I were out shopping and stopped into the little wine shop down the street. Apparently they were having a sale and everything was duty free, so there were a lot of people coming in to buy things from the airport (dream logic = fun, the closest airport is 30 minutes away). So we started walking up and down the isles looking for new wines to try when I looked over and saw J. She looked up and I smiled, she smiled back and looked down quickly. I turned around and went back the other way so I wouldn't bother her.
Dream Shift
Same store only now it's over twice the size with boxes and crates of every kind of drink you could think of. Much more of a warehouse feel. And there wasn't anyone there but the four of us and the one person working the cash register. Even with as much space as there was it felt like we were walking on top of each other and things were awkward. But by the time we'd gotten our things and were paying to leave, the small impersonal chatting had changed to actual conversation and laughter. Saying goodbye at the front of the store both J and I were crying, we smiled and then each walked in the other direction.
Dream Logic
To this day I miss them and hate the way things ended, but still have no idea how things could have been different without completely rewriting history. Growing up sucks. Learning from your mistakes sucks worse. Today I'm left feeling a little more reserved and a little more lost in thoughts. Which is all the more reason to just put on the headphones and clean the house in a numb mindless fashion.
