How the Fliff has Fallen

I suppose you should all know that I am now a bootlegger. I went on the annual church trip to the winery, which was fun even though it was the first time I haven't been given a role. I kinda made up for it at the end when, as it was a murder mystery, I rose to offer my opinion on how things went down. I also bought five bottles of wine, albeit only one for myself. Most of it was a delectable blackberry/blueberry wine. I ended up distributing a few in Applebee's parking lot after the Sock & Buskin senior send-off, and declaring loudly that I had “pretty much smuggled these across the state line.” I saw a guy in my peripheral who had a ludicrous reaction to that, and after he drove off someone said that he was an ATF officer. Oops.

The week before finals was absolute hell. I thought I had things more in hand than I did when the week rolled up, but...these things happen. There was a fire in Faculty Hall, where I have all of my classes, and that made for interesting times. I was in class at the time the alarm went off, and I just left campus when it did. I came back the next morning, and found a note saying to check the Internet for alternative meeting places. I actually did, and went to class at the Frap House, and got some free coffee. W00t!

Also got some free food at Dr Rose's house...he had a little hootenanny. Again I ate at the Academic Team banquet, the last hurrah of my career. I nominated Asia for President, which she won...now I feel like Vladimir Putin. I got MVP second year running...I felt warm inside. Or maybe that was the wasabe.

I went to Sock & Buskin initiations without being a little or a big...which mainly involves getting groped by blindfolded people who then try to guess your identity. The littles did a pretty killer job on their talents, skits, etc.

I went on some of my arbitrary campus expeditions just to keep things steady. I was on the stage in Johnson Theatre one night with Gina, Asia, and one of her friends, and decided to climb up into the rigging. The ladder goes probably...sixty or seventy feet up. It's tall. Going back down, I decided that climbing down was tortuous, and got off on the lowest catwalk to prepare a more speedy exit: I jumped off of it, rope in hand, and slid down. It was probably fifteen or twenty feet...fun times.

Finals week was not all that bad, if a little hectic. I did pull a couple of all-nighters, though, in my typical style. One such time, I headed to campus and decided to find a place to wait until the library opened at 7:30. I parked near the Faculty Club, a rarely-used reception area, and decided to head there. The screened-in back porch was open, but overly so for my covert needs. I decided to check out the outside basement door. Going in it, I found two sets of stairs: one going up into the house, one going on down into the basement proper. The former had on it a pair of shoes. It was then that I remembered the top floor has bedrooms in it, and that some prospective art professors were staying in them. Feeling froggy, I went into the basement anyway. I happened across a laundry room and decided to plonk down with this trusty laptop. Then I noticed that the room contained a veritable cache of alcohol. There were about ten bottles of wine, and two or three cases of beer...professor party!

Also during finals week I started two jobs...I now disseminate both news and alcohol to the public. I work in the news room of WKMS, the NPR affiliate on campus, and as a server at J Edward's. I have some good stories already, but I'll save them for next time because what I really want to talk about is...

...Iron Man. The Armored Avenger is the title character of what is pretty much the greatest superhero movie ever. Seriously, I think I impregnated everyone in front of me. Robert Downey Jr does a perfect Tony Stark, whom I was glad to see wasn't watered down from the comics...still a whiskey-swilling womanizer. It follows the comics well, with some cool references that geeks like me will get, and in the ways it does depart I think I like it better; the set-up of the villain was nicely done. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

In fact, I'm going to go watch another movie...the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I hope Indy still has it in him...
