2 Weddings in a Weekend

First of all, I'll get the boring painting updates out of the way.

There is red paint on my wall!!

The first coat was really scary because it was incredibly bright:

But I added two more coats of red today (plus two coats of primer on the opposite wall - I guess you could say I can really "feel the burn") and the red color has evened out and darkened to a nice rich shade:

and I really like how the red color fades to almost black where there is the least light.  I think it'll be even cooler with stripes - hopefully I'll start those tomorrow!

So, Weddings!

I went to two of them this weekend!  On Saturday I witnessed the marriage of Andy & Kim Luchsinger!  It was a gorgeous outdoor wedding at a nice country club/golf course on a lovely day, and the bride was absolutely beautiful :-)  I'm privileged to say I was in their orientation group where they first met!  We three and Gabe, and sometimes Karlyn, were the lunch bunch.  And now those two are married!  Unusual memorable moment:  Andy and Kim cut their cake with a sword.

Second wedding:  Kirk & Shelly Jostad!
The wedding was held in the beautiful Naz Chapel and the reception at Shoreview Community Center.  Shelly wore her mom's wedding dress but it looked like new!  And Shelly herself was just radiant!  I can't say I was there when those two first met, but I was there to witness when Kirk started paying special attention to Shelly :-) in the design classroom in the basement of Maranatha, Shelly and I would work late nights designing the set, lights, and costumes for The Importance of Being Earnest.  One night after auditions Kirk showed up and seemed unusually eager to help us build our model box for the set.  Well, that went on for several days or weeks, until Shelly confided in me - "Marlys?  I think Kirk likes me."  When I asked if she liked him back she responded with a very shy but resolute "...Yes!" and the rest is pretty much history.  (I have a couple pictures from the wedding and the reception on Facebook)

Quotes!  (I didn't forget this time!)

Monte (giving an analogy) - "If you are into that other kind of alcoholic drink, which is champagne, Todd, you are the bubbles."

Kayla E. (watching Marlys carrying some chairs) - "Marlys, you are like an ox."

Larisa - "Your eyebrows are so suggestive!"

Monte - "That staccato note needs to be like a big, round, silver ball. Like the kind that gets stolen off of people's front yards. Not like old couches that get dropped off in other places."

Dr. Mork - "It's ironic how I'm not supposed to dance with my husband, but he and I can create children together."

Dr. Muska (speaking at church) - "Jesus tells us not to worry, because God will provide our needs. He even provides for the birds. Birdies don't worry! Have you ever seen a birdie psychiatrist?!"
