"Awesome.."
That was my first thought when I opened the envelope and the gold ring slid out onto my hand that first time. I knew from Unkle Bilbo the power that was contained in such a small package. I could now hide from Lobelia whenever she decided that she just had to ask me [once again this week] to review the records of Bilbo’s will with whichever Sherriff she chose to bring with her the next time. Oh…. And…. I might even be able to use it to sneak into the Old Gaffer’s berry patch.
“Take my advice and use it very seldom or not at all.” Gandalf was known to talk on and on, giving you warnings without reasons. Yes, yes, yes.. Use it seldom. That was the last thing I wanted to do with Unkle Bilbo’s magic ring. I kept my eyes from his and took in the sight of the ring again with a pout. There went that idea. For the briefest of moments I wished I could find another way to hide from Lobelia and her army.
Like shrinking..
Perhaps there was a different magic ring that could help me to do that? Maybe I could trade for it? Could that help with berry stealing? Be awful hard to carry more than a couple at a time if I was smaller. Nope I suppose I would keep this one and just use it when the berries were ripening…
Frodo! Gandalf’s words of warning sliced through my wonderment of the ring and I finally looked up to meet his piercing blue eyes drilling into mine.
“Keep it secret and keep it safe..”
Funny how Gandalf seemed to know exactly what I was thinking.
