Name three things that you're looking forward to in the near future and why.
I shall see them again.
I tucked Elrond’s post into my vest pocket with a smile. I have finally received word that I had been hoping for. For over the years as I worked on our book my thoughts had not strayed very far from when I would make the journey to see my Unkle Bilbo and old Gandalf. I reached into the front of my shirt and drew out the warm stone that hung upon the chain there and drew it out letting it dangle in front of my eyes. The Lady Arwen spoke of this day in Gondor and at last this past autumn as the Mallorn tree bloomed for the last time before winters chill did I make my final decision.
Of course Elrond had known.
For who else would have sent that young elf with the bright eyes on a certain day in October with a gift to Athelas to Rose asking if I had any correspondance to send to my aged Unkle at the same time. I remember barely being able to reach out and take the cup of tea from Samwise without spilling most of it down my nightshirt and over the coverlets. And the blessed relief from pain once the leaves so deftly brewed finally penetrated the coldness of my shoulder and arm. I was able to draft up a small letter requesting a small berth if he were to set sail this year.
Bless the Elder for his timing.
No. Bless the Elder for the gifts that I am to look forward too.
"Mister Frodo??"
Samwise's soft questioning voice broke me from my thoughts and I settled the stone back against my shirt and turned with a smile.
"Just seeing if you need anything before Rose and I retire for the evening?"
"No Samwise. I think I have just about finished this chapter for now." My fingers rubbed selfconsciously at the ink stains embedded into the tips of them. He nodded and continued his way down the hall towards their room.
Yes.. One of the three things I looked forward to in the near future..
Seeing Bilbo..
Hearing Gandalf's laughter..
And finishing our book.
Then I too..
Can Retire.
