This song got me to listening to Vocaloid songs once again. And unsurprisingly, the creativity of creators still manage to impress me to this day.
I really think that Vocaloid, as a voice synthesising software, is a game-changer and has allowed creators to better express themselves. Of course I have friends, and know that there are people who are skeptical over the validity and sincerity of Vocaloid songs, given that they are not "conventional" so to say. But I think that these people are merely misguided and have not yet been exposed to the wonder that is Vocaloid or I'm just a massive nerd who prefers songs created by "normal" people to more often than not thrashy mainstream music but I'm digressing.
A dagger of distrust
Finally pierces a vein,
By suddenly appearing, this weak love,
Even transforms a pole into a lethal weapon.
It's not fiction.
I do like math and science,
Since I'm useless at Japanese, I hate it,
But if I continue to worry about which is correct,
I feel that they'll both turn out to be wrong.
Today's
Homework is
About me
Who has no personality,
It's just enough,
I'm satisfied,
I've started to live,
But why is it, we
Sometimes-- no, always
Say we're sad,
Say we're lonely?
Can you read the Kanji on the blackboard?
Can you read that kid's imagination?
Who was it, that dyed his heart black,
Hey, who was it?
Hey, who was it?
Can you solve this equation on the abacus?
Can you loosen the rope around that kid's neck?
Is it fine, if we remain like this?
Hey, what should I do?
It doesn't matter anymore...
No matter how much time passes, we've
Been carelessly intoxicated by hypnotism,
I've always hopelessly hid,
Behind
Arrogance from power I no longer have.
As always,
I can't
Solve
Yesterday's homework,
It's just enough,
I'm satisfied,
I've started to live,
But why is it,
The devil deep inside us
Says we want to disappear,
Says we want to die?
Can you read the Kanji on the blackboard?
Can you read that kid's imagination?
Who was it, that dyed his heart black?
Hey, who was it?
Hey, who was it?
Can you solve the equation on the abacus?
Can you loosen the rope around that kid's neck?
Is it fine, if we remain like this?
Hey, what should I do?
Hey, what should I do?
Can you recite the area ratio formula?
Can you recite your dreams as a child?
Who threw those dreams down the drain,
Hey, who was it?
But I already know.
When will you grow up?
What the heck is 'growing up' in the first place?
Who should I be asking?
Hey, what should I do?
It doesn't matter anymore...

*Heh sorry for the pic spam but the art is v effective in bringing out the message behind the song I couldn't resist.
I especially liked the way the song lyrics contrasted with one another;
"Can you read the kanji on the blackboard?
Can you read that kid's imagination?"
and
"Can you recite the area-ratio formula?
Can you recite your dreams as a child?"
I can relate to this song on a personal level, really. I do feel as though my existence has been defined, while not solely, but in a large part by my academic achievements. But weirdly, it is not my parents who are to blame for this level of stress as they are rather laidback yet society dictates and thus I struggle and follow. Not that I have much of a choice really, I'm just taking the most "conventional" path because what do you expect in a pragmatic society like Singapore?
I see the two boys in the video as the interaction between "agency" and "individual" as well; although we do not fully agree and struggle against the agency, ultimately, it seems that we would be forced to conform (look it's strain theory) lest we be labelled as "deviant".
Edit: Booo I realised the screenies would look much better if I left them in their original size but I'm too lazy to replace them :x
Lol there we go my first proper post since forever. :$ I do hope I can keep this up. :3
