Decided to try drawing the background before working on the actual drawing. I uh... Don't know what to feel about it. I'm still having trouble getting that sense of depth and is stuck between hard shading and soft shading limbo. In a perfect canvas, I'd love to be able to get the nice dark depth without having to resort to multiply layers with a soft looking brush.
Maybe I should make some sort of background swatch set with a lot of different shades so I can get the darks I want right from the start instead of going "Oh, that's not the color I want... ffgh."
There's also the problem of the background being too crisp and not kinda blurred slightly. It might take away from the characters in there but they are inked quite boldly so... It might not be a problem. It could just be some awesome style preference? I dunno, what do y'all think about it?
Also, all that work and 75% of it gets covered up by my drawing! Hahah....
I also did a sketch a few days ago-
Working on redesigning my tiger barbarian. This is inspired from John K's style but obviously I'll be veering away from that as I continue to refine. Must find a system of different cheek ruff styles because it's quite boring if everyone has the same style cheeks. They have different facial structures just like some folks have high cheekbones and others are low or might even have jowls.
I'll work on it later, right now I have an art trade to finish, secret santa, and commissions!
