So, as it turns out, Terry Gilliam films are really easy to twist into alternate universes based in White Wolf's Changeling: The Lost roleplaying game. The Queen in 'Brothers Grimm' is really a Fae in disguise, as is the "Devil" in 'Doctor Parnassus.' 'Brazil' is an Arcadian nightmare. You get the idea.
It also just so happens that I love both Terry Gilliam films and Changeling: The Lost. And I like to draw.
So, uh, this is what I spent almost all of today doing.
There's a few spoilers in here, including for the new 'Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.' FYI.
Let's start with 'The Brothers Grimm,' since that's the one that first occurred to me:
Angelika, by virtue of having her beauty (as well as her eyes) stolen by the Queen, becomes an Ogre-type changeling. Specifically a Cyclopean. A Cyclopean's sense of smell is so pronounced that the loss of sight barely matters.
Wilhelm, like all of the Queen's most treasured servants, becomes a Beast. His form is a european wildcat, but his kith is a Truefriend. A Truefriend's abilities lie in their loyalties, allowing them to give supernatural aid to their allies.
Jacob was charged with telling stories for the Queen's amusement, as well as keeping her library. He is a Wizened with a dual kith: Author/Antiquarian. But since the primary kith matters most, he's mainly an Author. An Author's power allows them to... basically be awesome wordsmiths, and to deduce the meaning of text in any mortal language.
(yeah, she took up my entire page o_O)
This is the Queen. In True Fae form. Yup. Big scary Fae, basically. She can hypnotize and seduce you and do all kinds of funscary stuff.
ETA: Going back through this post, I realize I totally forgot to give the Queen any hair. I think that by the time I got to that point, I was just tired of drawing her. =\
Now we move on to 'Brazil.'
I spent a lot of time figuring out what to make Sam, but once I figured it out it was kind of dur-obvious. He's a Wizened Oracle. I made him a shaman in Rowan Tree for the same reasons: the almost prophetic nature of his dreams. Oracles can -- yeah, see the future. Using whatever divination techniques they choose.
Finally, 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.'
"Lucky" Valentina is the only one out of this whole bunch who becomes a Fairest: specifically a Treasured. A Treasured's main role was as a piece of decoration, a trophy, and because of that they turn to metal and gem. Their skin and minds are hardier than most people's, which makes their Stamina, Resolve and Fortitude much stronger.
Poor, poor Tony. When the "Devil" got him, he was put to only the most menial tasks as a humiliating punishment for his sins and his ego. He becomes a Wizened Drudge. His abilities lie in Stealth and unseen actions.
That's it! It's been forever since I saw 'Twelve Monkeys,' and 'Time Bandits' is... meh. So, there you go.
