Raise the colors high!
FINALLY saw 'At World's End'. And there was so much awesome I don't even know where to start.
Well, how about starting with the fact that Cap'n Jack's Daddy is FLIPPIN' BLACKBEARD?? Or at least named after him.
On that same note, I had total pirate-lore geekgasms at seeing all the flags go up.
It's a shame it took me this long to see it, cause I feel like anything I say has likely already been said and squeed about a hundred times over in some other journal. :P Bah.
Well, screwit. :P Here's just a few of the things I liked:
-The Davy-Jones-Locker sequence and all the times afterward that the Cap'n kept seeing multiple versions of himself. I took this to be the writers telling us, "Yes folks, Captain Jack has finally gone 'round the bend and is completely and totally batshit nutso."
-CALYPSO. Jeez, no one is going to believe me when I say this... But that fic I talked about writing in this post? Was titled "Calypso." It was about the time Jack first went to visit Tia, and she trapped him there magically for two years. It was part of my explanation for why it took him a whiole ten years to find where the Pearl had gone off to. And yes, I wrote it before I heard the speculation from anyone else. TRUTH.
-Ragetti doing the whole lover-words thing to Tia. Awww.
-Will sipping tea calmly while Beckett and Jones storm around evilly.
-Davy Jones standing in a bucket.
-Bootstrap Bill, de-fishified and reunited with his son. I cried.
(other things that made me cry: Lizzie's rousing speech before the final battle, and her and Will's goodbye scene)
-KING LIZZIE. Especial love for how she shrugged when voting for herself, as if to say, "Well, no sense breaking the pattern." And then Jack... HEE!
-During the Jones/Sparrow battle, when Jack swings by on a rope, holds up the pistol, and smirks just before shooting. Best freakin' shot in the whole movie. I want a poster. Or at least an icon.
-Norrington!!! Well, I didn't like that he died... Only that it surprised me. And that he finally got to kiss her. Sadface.
-Piratified Will > Pre-pirate Will
-The endings--both of them--were perfect.
(and by both I mean the one before the credits and the one after ^____^)
Of the not-liking category:
-On the whole, the Jones and Sparrow battle up in the rigging. The ship's plowing around a whirlpool and you two are balancing on a round beam without holding onto anything? Bull. Shit. I coulda taken that with a grain of salt if they'd at least been each holding onto a rope or something. :P
-I wanted Singapore to be... different. I think since it was brought up in both other movies (and always in connection to Jack!) I thought they'd be going there later on, when he was with them.
But as you can clearly see, the things I liked far outweigh the things I didn't. O Cap'n Jack, you remain one of my many fictional heroes. God help me :D
Also, am I correct in thinking that Will got stabbitied with the same sword that he made in the first film?
EDIT: So I was inspired to go back and finish the Jack/Tia Dalma fic. Go forth and read the pseudo-smut!
