Jet D'eau, Geneva

This fountain is an iconic symbol of Geneva. It was supposed to run continuously from 10am to sunset, but for some reason was not running around 1pm when I decided to take a look at it.
It was rainy. I walked all the way down the river bank to a spot right across from the fountain. It started working about ten minutes after I got there and I realized how unnecessary my walk was. At 140m high the fountain is one of the tallest things in town and can be seen from most anywhere. The water shoots out at 200km/h which made it seem as though the sheer force of the fountain pierced the sky and cut a whole in the grey clouds overhead.
