I'm not much of an observer of religious holidays. To clarify - I will celebrate any religious or non-religious holiday that involves a nice meal and/or people giving me presents. I do not participate in or concern myself with the religious part of the celebration.
I don't remember any Jewish holiday dates, especially since they are a moving target. If my mother reminds me and invites me to a holiday dinner, I dutifully show up. I even fast on most Yom Kippurs cause I think it's a neat test of will.
Passover however is my least favorite holiday. Any observance that comes with dietary restrictions is a drag. Notice, I'm cool with not eating at all, but not so cool with following arbitrary rules of what can and cannot be consumed.
My mother is even more arbitrary about following the arbitrary rules. For most holidays she cooks normally, without concern for kosher rules. For Passover however, she will not have bread or use recipes with flour. To me this means bad food and no cake... or even worse, cake from matza flour (the horror!).
I was at my parents' yesterday and my mother invited me to Passover dinner today. I declined, since I felt I've fulfilled my visiting quota for the week. She was not happy... Am I in the wrong here?... Probably. Where mothers are concerned rules of logic or religion do not apply - you're always wrong because upsetting your mother is never right.
