My phone wasn't disconnected by Verizon due to miscommunication, as I originally thought.
It was broken! For days. When I called Verizon they said the problem is at the CO and they don't have any way of knowing my phone's broken other than me telling them... so trying to fight them to get a pro-rated bill is probably futile.
How badly do I really need a land line? Perhaps my money is better spent on a little power generator.
