One of the boys, a rugged-looking blonde with carefully tousled hair, throws his legs across the arm of the chair, his jacket tucked under his knees to cushion the thin iron. Laughing, he ducks as a paper ball whips over his head, and absent-mindedly swings a punch at his friend. Neither boy notices the girl with the brown eyes lift her gaze from her book and watch the blonde boy for a few seconds. Scared to be caught, she slides her eyes away from him and sinks slightly lower in her chair. Everyone in the room is startled from their casual chat or half-hearted study when a tall man in a suit shuts the door less than carefully, and the boys’ heads swivel in the direction of the disturbance. She is sitting by the door, and shocked to find herself in his line of vision, she turns the page rapidly and refuses to look up until she is sure that no-one is looking. She glances back to his profile for reassurance, and smiles to herself.
