I have been trying for months now to figure out how to decorate our home-especially the basic color schemes for each room. I started with locating the draperies for each room first, as they are a major focal point.
In the dining room we have red and gold striped curtains across one huge window overlooking the side yard, neighbors house and view of the water and trees. For the living rooms three windows, I have chosen midnight blue and gold scrollwork curtains. There are two tall windows on either side of the front door that I am still trying to find coverings for. The cold air really seems to seep in in that area during the winter. We need to cover those windows during that time and put a long covering at the bottom of the door. I'm trying to find a dauchsund one, as I saw it in a catalog and should have bought it then.
I'm still uncertain on the bedroom, kitchen or scullery (mud/laundry room). Then there are the two bedrooms upstairs and hubby's office. The office is made out of cedar and has shutters with lattice. We may not need curtains in there but it might help with warmth in the winter by keeping the heat in.
I'm thinking french vanilla walls with a dark wood stain on the trim for the dining room but am at a loss for the living room. There is a silvery grey that might go well but I feel that would be too darkening when its so gray outside most of the year. *sigh* And then there is the bathroom and its window, not to mention the clawfoot tub which needs pretty curtains as well as shower curtains. Complicated.
I need to go to the hardware store and get a bunch of swatches. More when I get those, hopefully this Saturday...
