Exciting music news #1:
Hey guys,
Thought we’d give you guys this info before we announce to the public. Josh is returning to the big cities after his intimate run of regional shows, to play a short string of very special, one off concert shows, at the country’s best theatres. The shows will feature a visual element to accompany the songs, which promises to make this a performance not to be missed. Joining Josh for the ride will be special guests 78 Saab and Whitley.
The “Monkey With A Drum” concert tour 2007, presented by Triple J & MySpace
Wednesday 24th October - Newcastle City Hall, Newcastle NSW
Friday 26th October - The Forum Theatre, Melbourne VIC
Saturday 27th October - The Enmore Theatre, Sydney NSW
Thursday 1st November - Concert Hall QPAC, Brisbane QLD
Friday 2nd November - Her Majesty’s Theatre, Adelaide SA
Holy fuck I'm so excited, Josh Pyke theatre tour! The last tour was announced as being the last headlining one this year which I was so sad about but not so! yippee!!! This will be awesome. Last year Josh played on my actual birthday which was the best, this year the Enmore show is on my birthday so I'm thinking I'll have to make it two years running. Any excuse really lol
Exciting music news #2:
While we're fine for this year, perhaps some of you trainspotters are already aware our current venue Belongil Fields, Byron Bay, will soon become unavailable for use as a festival site as Byron Shire Council and the Belongil Fields owners have commenced rezoning the property for residential use. Not so good, right?
But here's the good news! In the interests of keeping the festival in Byron Shire, a group of like minded individuals including Splendour In the Grass have purchased over 650 glorious acres of land in Yelgun, approx 15 minutes drive north of Byron Bay. To give you context, at Belongil Fields we are currently using 47 acres for both the event and camping areas so the new property is substantially bigger allowing us room to develop and improve the event. Our intention is to create an Arts and Cultural Events Centre with good facilities, better access and loads of space to enjoy.
650 acres compared to 47! This is the best news ever. This year is the first (and now hopefully the last) Splendour that I'm not camping at - the tickets sold out. Splendour has well and truly outgrown its venue. The whole ticketing disaster proved that (hello loyalty program anyone?). So naturally the idea of more space for campers makes my week. While we're at it - I would also like more spots to sit down and not such of an out of the way hike to get from one stage to the other - thanks Splendour. These things are the very little cloud on my massive silver lining, just over one week to go, can't wait.
I read Harry Potter on the weekend and overall I really enjoyed it, especially towards the end, the middle dragged for me a little. Unfortunately, I was so paranoid about being spoiled before I read it that I powered through a hangover of death to finish it which meant that I wasn't taking in as much. I'm gonna have to read it again to pick up all the little things. I've promised it to my Mum first tho so that'll hafta wait. She called me tonight because my brother had found and downloaded a copy of Deathly Hallows from the internet. She couldn't wait for my copy so started reading that, she was enjoying it immensely but gave me a call tonight after things started going a little strange. She called me and said this book was great in the beginning but Harry's beginning to get a bit obsessed with Ginny, I'm thinking its a bit much lmao my poor mum had got hold of some (600 page) fanfic and while she didn't say it I have a feeling she read a Harry/Ginny sex scene. At first I didn't realise and asked her to tell me what had been happening. I was laughing my ass off at what she was telling me, it was waaaaay off, although very inventive. She was very relieved to find out she wasn't reading the real thing haha
Quick note of what I loved:
> The scene where Harry's parents and Sirius and Lupin are walking Harry to his death, aww
> Neville and everything he did, I think he's my hero now and I wish we had heaps more about what he was doing at Hogwarts
> Correct me if I'm wrong (cause like I said I was not real well) but I love the way the horcruxes turned out, they were all destroyed by people around Harry, not Harry himself. Dumbledore, Ron, Hermione, Crabbe, Voldemort & Neville all destroyed one, leaving Harry to finish Voldemort off.
> The death that affected me the most was definitely Fred! Not Fred! I thought for sure the twins were safe, that one killed me. And I was suprised to find myself getting upset about Dobby too but I think that was more to do with Harry's reaction.
> The other thing I totally didn't expect was Kreacher, he turned out to be so awesome! There's emotional manipulation at its best.
The one thing I really didn't like was the ending, one cause it was cheese plus and two because we don't get to find out nearly enough. Either do a cheesy ending where we find out about everyone we care about or don't do one at all. What about Neville's life (apart from teaching), Luna and The Weasleys. I don't know if it was cause I was so tired but I found all the names in the end part really confusing, I had to keep rereading to find out who's kid it was and blah. More to come later...
