Things Livejournal Taught Me (About Merlin)
In the last 3 weeks, I have read about 50 Merlin fics. Just gobbled them up (omnomnom). We all know the novelty of new fandom love, that exciting honeymoon phase where every fic is beautiful and nothing hurts, and you look for excuses to slip away from the normal people in your life to finish that one longfic that you're seriously trying to read slow, so as to savor the angsty goodness!.
It's just that... okay.
I've never watched a lick of Merlin.
Really, nothing at all. It's completely ludicrous. I know nothing about the canon except for the obvious Camalot-y stuff, but I find when reading modern AUs or hell, even canon stuff that isn't plotty at all, I can totally get through these fics without seeing the show. I googled the actors once just to get an image in my head, but other than that, my experience with Merlin fandom begins and ends, with fic.
It's all rather intriguing what fic has taught me about the Merlin canon and fandom. Could be canon, could be fanon, but in reading Merlin fic this past month, here are the guesses I'm venturing as to what Merlin canon is and what the characters are like. I wonder if I'm accurate?

- Morgana = scary vixen BFF fag hag
- Gwen. Merlin's sometimes-competition.
- Arthur and Morgana's parentage? You need a diagram to navigate that web of WTF.
- Merlin has enormous Dumbo ears (that blush)
- Arthur Pendragon is a prat
- A royal prat
- Seriously, I get it, he's a prat
- Merlin is omg, so dense.
- And clumsy!
- Fluff!
- Uther is an evil, homophobic, old school stiff upper lip, stick up his ass blue blood.
- Or! Uther is just A Very Misunderstood Man (my favorite)
- Merlin's magic, a lot like a puppy or crazy affectionate fluffy-tailed squirrel.
- Arthur has Pride.
- A lot of it.
- Really, like tons of it.
- It gets kind of annoying.
- Mordred's heart: Where adorable, harmless crushes go to die.
- Percy Lance Gwaine = orgy.
