Beautifully written ficlet. When I got to the end, I realised I'd been holding my breath the whole time. There's just so much emotion here, in so few words.

"William whimpered softly in the back seat each time she put her foot to the accelerator, as if he knew the fate that awaited him." This line was so haunting, because I'm sure thats exactly what a mother in that position would feel! You captured that exceptionally well.

"Everyone seemed to be staring at her, asking where is your son, whispering terrible mother amongst themselves." Another great insight into what Scully would probably be feeling. Such a human thing to do. To assume that everyone around us is as ashamed of us as we are...

"because, in the end, no matter how desperately she tried to convince herself otherwise, it was always about him." Brilliant, harrowing last line.
