Post Surgery

The lumpectomy was just an introduction of what was to come.  When the "simple mastectomy" was decided (due to the margins coming back positive) I really didn't know if I had the mental capacity to deal with it.  Both my oncologist and surgeon thought it would be best to do the reconstructive surgery after my treatment (chemo) due to possible ( Read more... )

Looking up stuff online is scary. I scared myself shitless a couple of times looking up MS. I try not to anymore.

It takes courage to square your shoulders and get yourself through this, so yeah, I agree with your mom.

You are going to live and you are going to be stronger than ever when it's done. I know it in the deepest part of my heart.

Thank you Gillian, I went and saw my social worker today. It actually went really well. The next couple of steps are going to be extremely challenging and I really think that I need to prepare myself. I just need to be patient....

Have you reached out to any support groups? When does chemo start?

You sound so much stronger than a few weeks ago. I was so scared because you sounded so scared and hopeless and I know how powerful the mind can be in healing the body. I was ready to get on a plane and go to you so I could just keep telling you you're going to be okay until you believe it.

So I just do it in facebook messages instead :)

I'm going to check out the support groups for sure. It took me a while to even reach out to Marilyn (social worker). I do feel better, it's amazing what your mind can do. Some days are good, some are bad. I believe I'm finally over the initial shock. Perhaps that's the worst part, is being diagnosed.

I'm assuming the chemo will start soon. I have a procedure next week to insert the port (where the chemo will be injected). I will have that port until the treatment is over.

How are you doing?

I am doing well. I am not working right now but I am somehow insanely busy all the time. I am volunteering for a group that is organizing a march for housing/homelessness in Vancouver next month, doing some PR and stuff ( ... )
