The kindness Of Chileans...Part 2

May 17, 2007 21:08

I feel I must add to my observations of Chileans....

First of all, Chivalry is NOT dead in Chile.  These people care a lot for people in need.   They practically jump out of their seats (in buses or the metro)  to offer the elderly or women with children a comfortable place to sit (and I must admit I often think about stuffing my purse under my sweater to appear 'prego'...terrible aren't I?....BUT what about my travel time... (paste in whine)!).

And at times they do give up their seat for little old me...aren't they sweet?  Even when I trip (which is often) some gentlemen always tries to help me out.  Quite embarrassing I must admit but the kindness is always appreciated.  EVEN the man that works for the apt. building I live in is super nice to me.  One day he insisted on taking my garbage out to the trash can.  I swear he INSISTED!!!

I really do like these people even though they often forget about personal space and for some strange reason they always seem to get in my way.  Especially when I'm in a rush, which is often!

My spanish is improving....I accidently spoke spanish with a student of mine the other day.  It totally slipped out and I didn't even notice, my student did!

I'm assimilating....ACK!
