An interesting Friday afternoon

So, on Friday afternoon, I scored a last minute ticket to see the Dalai Lama speak on campus.  Very cool.  I almost actually said no, but I decided I would kick myself, so I blew off a meeting with my boss and stood at the end of the line for admittance for a while.  But, perk of being at the end of the line -- the Dalai Lama walked right by us on his way into the building and the security relaxed as they tried to get us in the auditorium as quickly as possible.

I sat in the last row, but I had a good view.  It was not real long as the Dalai Lama had to catch a plane, but it was somewhat worth it.  He has an infectious laugh and he cracks himself up, really.  He also apparently fancies tinkering with machines in his spare time.  His English is a bit uncertain at times still, but he is very interesting.  And as a result of his visit, my boys and I had an discussion about religion and reincarnation, and how he doesn't really get to decide not to be the Dalai Lama.  So, that was an interesting by-product.

Sometimes working in the DC area has its perks.  Definitely not a usual Friday afternoon.
