[Lucas's voice is quiet, subdued.  Indistinct.  He isn't speaking to anyone in particular more than he is speaking to himself.]

It looks like she got what she wanted.  ...He never would have let her go.  Not like this.  I wonder... who helped her.  ...I wonder if she could have believed that we might have helped her.  But, I guess... she ( Read more... )

....so this is a simulation? ....if it was Braun's though...how could-

[No never mind she could dwell on that later.]

...Has anyone found the fail-safe yet? There was one in the simulation I was trapped in before.

I... I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean a way to shut it off from the inside? If there is one, it'll probably be in the one of the place we can't get to. City Hall, the police station, the dairy...

Yeah. The one for Tranquillity lane was in an abandoned house with a puzzle lock on it. I haven't found one of those here yet though.

Tranquility Lane...

But if you've got experience with this kind of thing, that will definitely be of help. Were there any other... weaknesses or anything we should watch out for that you know of?

Well when I was there, the person in charge, Braun. Took the form of a little girl named Betty. He would change the place around the people trapped in the simulation. They didn't have any free will though and acted like drones. One of them, an old lady seemed to know what was going on.

I don't know if any of that works here. There was only a street there. And no one was from a different world. It was all set up by a vault scientist who had turned the simulation into an unending stream of torture for the people inside.

.....Also the fail safe killed everyone trapped inside. So if we all are hooked up to a machine, and not dragged in from another world. We may not even be able to use it.

B-But... that sounds almost exactly like what's happening now. Does that mean there are a lot of places like this, all throughout our worlds...?

There's a few people who know what's going on here, too, who aren't working for Zemekis. They worked at the diner... No one knows where they went, though.

How is it that you were able to activate the fail-safe without hurting yourself?

I'm not sure. I don't think there were any more like that in my world. Braun designed it himself and every vault seemed to have ...some sort of different experiment being done on the people...most of them horrible, but different.

Really? Did any of the drones say they were just crazy?

And I managed to get out alive because the fail safes only worked on some of the pods. And those were the ones that the original members of the vault were in. They died...I got my dad out ...and Braun's trapped in there ...forever now.

I see...

The normal drones don't really talk about them. The special drones... Well, Billy and Lucy and Mr. Smith have never tried to help her. And you can see what happened to Mrs. Smith...

But if you could escape from something like that, then we... we must have a chance, too.

Yeah....

[She sighs. Poor woman...]

Well, I've escaped from one simulation. I don't see why a second would be impossible.

Besides, we all need to get home.

Yeah. ...Do you mind if I ask how long it took you with Tranquility Lane?

Um....a day I think.

Maybe a bit less then that.

It's much bigger here and I was contacted by the person who was running the simulation only a few minutes into arriving there.

He wanted to play a game.

The one here usually avoids speaking to us unless she really wants to hurt us. But that's the kind of thing she would say, too.

Yeah.

He wanted me to make a little boy cry.

...Really?

The games we play here are more like... 'kill each other for a week' or 'pretend you're madly in love'.
