Fic Rec: Eclipse, by maxine_chan, novel length, pg-13

I seem to be very close to running out of good Snarry. I've started saving stories that I know are good for later. For example, everyone and their brother has raved about pir8fancier's fic Snape the Home Fries Nazi. Instead of just reading it, like a normal person would, I am saving it for a rainy day, so to speak. I know that in the very near future, there will come a time when I am desperate for fic, and won't be able to find any. That's when I pull out my emergency reserve. Anyway, the point is that I have read so much Snarry lately that I am having difficulty finding new stories to obsess over.

This sad situation, along with a recent rec by littleroo27, have led me to return and dabble my toes in the Harry/Draco corner of fandom. It has been so long since I have lived in that part of the community that there are apparently an abundance of brilliant fics that I have missed.

One such fic is Eclipse by PhoenixSong, a.k.a. maxine_chan. The character shifts are slow and deliberately drawn out such that it is impossible to pinpoint exactly where Harry and Draco cross the lines from hatred, to understanding, to friendship, to love. maxine_chan's characterization of Harry is one that I don't believe I have ever seen before, at least not to this extent. Her Harry is strong, really strong, or, at least, Draco sees him that way. That's not to say her Draco is weak; he is a strong character as well, but Harry is still strong enough to break him, and then rebuild him.

I am also a complete sucker for magical theory, which maxine_chan has thrown at us in spades. Her ideas about more primitive magic are very intriguing, especially regarding the roles that emotions can play in casting. All in all, this fic is well- planned and brilliantly executed. It is complete, although it begs for a sequel, which may or may not be in the works.
