It was like they wanted to watch him suffer.

Perhaps they did, he might never know, the blonde vampire wondered, lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling. The lack of food, including while he was catatonic, was taking its toll. The ceiling seemed to sway, and every now and again bright flashes appeared. He occasionally entertained stupid notions that he usually wouldn't, such as going out and seeing if drinking another person's blood than Kurogane would taste different, or make him ill, or even cause magical backlash that would kill him. He knew he couldn't eat anything too solid anyway, though he did still enjoy the taste even if it wasn't so much to his liking anymore, and water didn't seem to help no matter how much he drank.

Last week's experiment wasn't helping either. Reliving his childhood, the unbridled terror and loneliness that came from being Yuui again was making some unpleasant memories resurface. He stretched out a hand into the air, flicking the nails that came with being a vampire in and out. All while wondering vaugely, for what was probably the millionth time in his life, what would happen if the real Fai, his twin brother, was here. Maybe one from another universe, or a time where it had been him that had lived, not Yuui. Would they look the same? Would they act the same? What would the difference be? Would he still be cursed by Fei Wang Reed, would he have gone through everything he had, would he have taken the name "Yuui", like Yuui had taken the name "Fai"? Would he have fallen in love unexpectedly, become a parental figure to two lost children, had his eye ripped out by one of them?

It was almost eerie how accurate his hallucinations were getting.

His own face appeared above him, blinking down at him with a melancholy look that was probably the same as the one he was wearing. He smiled wearily. "Hello Fai." he murmured.

"Hello Fai." the reflection replied, head bumping into the vampire's still extended hand.

Solid.

Fai's breath caught.
