"I did," Hakkai agreed. It had been hard to tell on the computer screen, but in person it was obvious Gojyo was tiny. His height was about average for a five-year old, but he was so thin, all knees and elbows, it made him look even smaller than he really was. If Jien hadn't already killed the woman who Gojyo considered his mother, Hakkai would have begun searching for her then and there at the sight of his friend's tiny, almost emaciated appearance.
He smiled despite his sudden rush of worry and anger, determined not to let his true emotions show on his face. Gojyo didn't know him at all. He would have no way to know the anger Hakkai was feeling was not directed at him, and probably wouldn't believe Hakkai if he explained it to him.
"I brought this," he said, pushing aside his thoughts. He held up the food, but otherwise made no movement. He'd never wished harder than this moment for proper food, food with flavor and excessive calories, food that would make Gojyo happy while nourishing him at the same time. The meal bars and the snake meat would both certainly nourish him, though Hakkai highly doubted he'd be happy about eating either.
