Summary: Kairi wished for a huge party and Val intends to deliver.

[For the week she had no scars, so Temari intended to enjoy it. She leaned against the bar, wearing cut off shorts and a tank top from Whispering Rock camp. She didn't usually drink, and had no intention of drinking enough to affect her, but it was a party. A beer dangled in one hand while she scanned over the crowd, looking a bit like a pin up girl in heeled sandals.]

That she did, and the man in the tuxedo was the first to notice. His eyebrows lifted appreciatively as he approached her, slipped off a few seats down to her left, and he ordered a whiskey sour.]

[Turning to lean on the bar, he gave her another lingering look, before taking his drink and sipping it, looking elsewhere for a few beats.]

[Of course she noticed him. For one, it was a professional habit. For two, he was an attractive enough man checking her out. Women were practically programmed to notice that.

While he casually took his seat, Temari turned to openly look at him.]

Looking for something?

[He looked over at her when she spoke, smiling a little before he took a sip from his glass, then spoke.] Just a drink and maybe some innocent fun. It's a party, after all.

[He met her gaze boldly, lifting an eyebrow.] What about you?

Keeping an eye out for trouble.

[She takes a drink off of her beer.]

Looks like I was justified.

[He arches an eyebrow, before he leans in her direction.]

So you think I'm trouble? I haven't even started talking yet.

[He gave her a lopsided smile.]

[She holds her ground, giving him a raised eyebrow in return.]

You don't even have to start talking. I've run enough missions to know when someone's out hunting. I'll save you the trouble.

[Hunting? Hunting. Now she gets both eyebrows up, and he takes another drink before asking warily.]

Save me trouble. For what?

[Her expression gives away her amusement over his wariness.]

It's not going to happen. I'd point you toward someone else, but you already know Kenzi. Women are in short supply here, do you like guys?

It's not going to happen.

[He repeated her, because he got that feeling anyway, before he decided that another drink right now would be a great idea.]

[Until she mentioned the part about guys, and he nearly choked.]

... No. I'm not -- [what was the modern term?] 'Gay'. So ... I'll stick with the dwindling women supply. Who are not you.

[He turned back to the bartender.] Top me off, please. I feel I'm going to need it.

[He gave the woman another sideways glance.] Anything else you'd like to slap me with? I'd like to know if I should order a double.

[She burst out laughing.]

Depends on how delicate you are. But I can see why you get along with Shikamaru, you're pretty good at rolling with the punches.

It's a fair question, half the men here end up dating other men. I thought I should check.

I'm not delicate - I'm just not up for being slapped in the face with fish. [His tone is tart, but he relaxes a little when he hears Shika's name. Ah, one of the kid's friends.] I can learn how to bob and weave with the best, though.

[He picked up his glass, giving her a raised eyebrow.] And that's fine for them - it's not my lifestyle though. Some gooses like gooses, and some gooses like ganders. I prefer the gander.

Duly noted. In which case, I don't really have someone to aim you at. Well, unless you're looking for a charming flirt, then you can try Milla. She's always up for meeting someone new, and she's very easy to look at.

[She takes another drink, smiling to herself. Yes, Milla was very attractive in her opinion and could use some light hearted fun.]

How's the leadership working out for you?

You know, I can actually find my own women. I've been doing so since I was a dashing boy of sixteen. [His tone is a little wry.] But thanks, all the same.

[Still, he kept the name Milla in mind.]

I ... really wouldn't know. I haven't been leading as much as just working.

I didn't want you to get slapped by anymore fish, though I'm pretty sure I'm the worst for that. After me, the rest of the night should be easy.

Hn. I figured as much. Nothing more than formalities while nothing changes. I'm forever grateful I didn't have to go anywhere near that meeting. I had my fill off council meetings back home.

[He quirked a grin.] It was actually pretty useful - I at least know where to focus my attention. Shielding and weaponry.
