[Stein knew that, as a rule, Maka never actually read the observations so it was highly likely she would have no idea what he was talking about at first and would probably not be expecting the company.
However, Stein didn't particularly care and this one observation actually bothered him enough that he needed to go and ask her to make sure it wasn't actually true. So there he was, at a few minutes after midnight trying to not make the knocks on Maka's door sound not quite as concerned as he currently felt.]
