A spar right now would be perfect. It was what she needed to get her mind off of everything going on this week. A disconnection and a reason not to think too much was exactly what she was looking for, and when she was in a fight, there wasn't time to worry about everything else. There wasn't time to focus on anything but the weapon in her hands, and the rush of the spar. Not to mention, it would be a lie to say this was a spar she wasn't looking forward to ( ... )

When Maka arrived bearing the substantial scythe she'd shown him briefly on video, one eyebrow lifted as though silently evaluating the capability of this little girl to wield such an item. But he knew better than to make a firm judgment on it until he actually had a chance to test it for himself.

"Hi," he responded dryly. After all, he hadn't seen her since the incident a few days prior where she'd been pricked by the plant and suddenly become as sociably friendly as a harem girl. He hadn't been able to resist cashing in on a bit of that entertainment either.

"Feeling back to your usual self?"

The day had been so hectic with new and familiar arrivals, that she'd almost managed to forget the events of last week. Almost. Her face immediately went several shades pinker, and she groaned out loud. The specifics of the conversations she'd had were luckily, only fuzzy memories, but she still remembered the basic idea.

"Yes, I'm sane now. How about we never mention that ever again and just spar? What did you decide about a weapon?" She wasn't exactly subtle about the subject change, but she didn't care.

The embarrassed response elicited a chuckle from him, but at her question, he spreads his hands and looked penitent. "Unfortunately I don't have anything to match yours," he answered. "This place is not so generous to those who are newly arrived."

The truth was, he wanted to see if she'd really hand over a weapon of her own, even if she thought that she was keeping one with superior capability.
