THE KIDDIE-CORNER | AKA: LISTENING IN FROM BEHIND THE COUCHcrossespurposeOctober 21 2011, 00:55:58 UTC
[Officially now part of suite nine, Colin had been listening in from the beginning since well--his opinion was it was his common room as well now and asides, Midnighter had not said anything about him nor had he made a move to shoo him away so in turn, he didn't, he simply remained behind the couch while all the others sat around and spoke. He was listening, that much was sure as quietly to anyone in the immediate group no one knew of what he was capable and well, nor did Colin at this moment but he was also in a momentary state of contentment still not knowing that his only true friend and partner in crime, Damian, had been placed on the list of terminations. So, quietly he listened but feigned disinterest as he and his makeshift companion Rory II made base behind the couch and kept busy drawing in a small notebook.
It was the least he could do to at least pretend he was not paying attention to what was being said.]

[Tommy needs a few minutes to cool down. He doesn't believe there's any peaceable way to deal with the Joker, doesn't really care if 'peaceable' means innocents might get hurt. So he takes his leave from the discussions to flop on the floor beside Colin and offer him a smile, nature always much more gentle when it comes to kids.]
[He's heard of the Joker, he knows of him from his home-world but he says nothing when he's brought up throughout the conversations. Listening as he scrawls away at the paper in front of him he pauses and tenses slightly when he hears approaching footsteps. He knows very little of the people that have showed up, but when he looks up and see's Tommy he seems to relax slightly and lean more against the couch where he sits with Rory II.] Fine.
[He turns back to his drawing.] Midnighter moved me in here last week.
[Tommy raises an eyebrow slightly at that. Midnighter moved him in here? Huh, that's kind of sweet. It must be a little awkward for Colin that they were just both arguing for the Joker's repeated assassination, though.] Did he? That's nice of him. He been looking after you?
[Despite the tension in the room, he can still speak casually, and lean against the back of the sofa. Tommy digs into his jeans pocket and pulls out a couple of the hard candies he carries around sometimes, handing one over to Colin and unwrapping the other for himself.]
[Looking over at the other he nodded and leaned back still, putting down the pen that he had in his hand and reaching over to tentatively take the candy from the others hand and unwrap it slowly, watching the color come through. Pausing, he took in a small breath and listened to Tommy before nodding at his comment.] Yeah, he has.
He's a really strong guy. [He would have said nice but--well, they had this conversation about not spreading that around. Another pause and he looked up at Tommy still before eating the candy. He had heard the conversation, but he didn't mind it much--it's not like it was unnaturally.]
[Tommy smiles a little at that, popping his candy into his mouth and sucking on it idly.] That's good. He seems like a cool guy. [He's the only one that agrees with Tommy about how to deal with this little 'problem', at least. It's nice to know that someone around here doesn't look down on him for his baser instincts.]
Yeah, he seems pretty strong too. [He laughs a little at that, candy clicking against his teeth softly, and then he shakes his head, settling down to listen to the conversation raging not too far off.]
He is. [His reply comes quietly as he picks up a black crayon, scrawling on the page and then pauses when the conversation seems to get louder. There had been lots of talk but in the last handful of minutes it had dissolved into argument and bickering. Quietly he looked down at the paper and then leaned back against the couch more.]
Adults are stupid. [Came his echoing of the others comment, taking up a red crayon and working on his drawing more after giving the pale haired teen a glance.]
[Tommy leans over a little, subtly, to take a look at what Colin is drawing. It's just something to distract himself from the arguing and the yelling, really.] Yeah, they really can be. This isn't gonna accomplish anything, but hell if anyone'll listen to reason around here.
When people yell they stop listening to anyone else and think they are right. [When the other leans over he looks up at him and then turns the paper over to him. Pointing to the figures on the paper he pauses and speaks.]
That's me, that's Stephanie and that's Damian. I want to give them both a drawing when I see them next.
You're pretty smart for a kid. Suggestions are just gettin' shot down, no one's even considering anything the rest of us have to say... [He trails off with a sigh, looking at the drawing curiously. At the explanation, he manages a small smile, even though...
The kid doesn't know about Damian yet, does he? Well. It isn't his place to say.] I bet they'll like that.
It's because no one thinks the same, everyone has different ideas but everyone does not want to change their minds. [His voice replies quietly but it's almost a matter-of-fact manner. Colin was a ten year old boy, things just seemed to escape like that and well, he was distracted enough by the drawing and content to the fact that Damian was still alive in his eyes.]
It's because nobody listens to reason, let me tell you. They're too busy trying to stick to their fluffy little moral codes and pull that "let the adults handle this" crap. No one adapts. [But that's about all he has to say on the matter. It isn't really something Colin needs to worry about anyway - he's just a kid, he's got all of them to protect him.]
Use a little light orange for the undertones of Stephanie's hair. It'll look just fine.
It's because they all want their way, right? I mean--sometimes people get really upset if they don't get what they want and they get mad at the person that says they are wrong. [And if Colin had it his way, he would find his strength again so he could prove that he could be a hero to--that he could work with them but with a lack of focus and without someone to help him, at the moment he can't do much.]
Light orange-- [He searches around, applies the idea and then offers it to the other.] Like that?
Pretty much. Everyone thinks their way is the best way. [He just settles back to watch the kid color, glad for the moment of peace away from the arguing.]
Hopefully it's sooner than later. [He (slowly, giving Colin plenty of time to see his hand approaching) reaches over to give Colin's hir little ruffle.]
It was the least he could do to at least pretend he was not paying attention to what was being said.]
