And if your heart should melt away

Who: Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes
When: 3 AM Saturday
Where: Suite 8 common room
Summary: Another sleepless night for two old soldiers.
Rating: PG-13 for safety
Warnings: Possible talk of terrible Saw week things, grown men being heartbreakingly sad.

It's 3 am and Bucky can't sleep. Insomnia has become their norm, him and Steve, so it's no surprise. He's woken by nightmares, the way he usually is, horrible images of Steve floating through his dreams all bloodied and gritting his teeth from the pain. He knows the other man doesn't blame him, doesn't hate him for what he had to do, but in his nightmares, those blue eyes are accusatory and cruel, sharp and unlike the real Steve. It's his own hatred and self-loathing staring back at him through his best friend's face.

Bucky doesn't scream anymore, doesn't gasp or react, just rolls out of bed, leaving the sheets a mess, and scrubs a palm over his eyes. Steve is missing from the other bed, and he frowns a little groggily before making his way out to the common room to look for him. It's silly, feeling a pang at his absence, but he knows he'll feel a little better if he can just... check on his partner.
