It had been even worse than he'd expected. He'd never seen the teen look more exhausted, even after self-destructing his Gundam.

Trowa entered the room completely, closing the door behind himself. He looked from Heero to the bed pointedly, hoping he wouldn't have to resort to force. The soldier was going to sleep that night, whether he wanted to or not.

For some reason, the swing of the door was momentarily fascinating. Heero let his eyes track it before snapping a would-be glare at Trowa. It came out more inquisitive than intense, and he settled for a weary "Status?" as the other pilot made himself at home.

"Not important." Trowa answered coolly, stepping forward after Heero made no indication that he'd understood Trowa's small gestures.

He shut Heero's laptop and lifted him from the chair by the arm, then pushed him towards the bed. Subtlety would do him no good when 01 was this exhausted, he'd have to go for a more blunt approach.

"I'll take point."

For a moment, Heero pulled back against Trowa's grip, protesting. But, then, it seemed too much effort. Just beginning a list of reasons why he should or shouldn't sleep seemed difficult. Life had narrowed to being on guard, and...and...

...Heero couldn't remember any more, and let himself fall onto the carefully made bed without further protest. After a moment, he turned his head, slowly as afraid it would creak, and watched Trowa incredulously. How had he- and why? He'd done it before, too, several times, now, and with no reason given. But it wasn't in Heero to ask, only to watch, as if afraid he would leave again, task undone.

Trowa picked up the recently abandoned chair and placed it by the door, sitting down and getting comfortable. He intended to keep watch all night, if that was what would get Heero to sleep.

He watched Heero watching him, the silent command nearly audible in its intensity.

Some things were just understood between them, and it had always been that way. They were too similar to not understand each other.

Stupidly, Heero blinked at him, then nodded. He seemed to fall unconscious as much as into sleep the moment he closed his eyes. Heavy, cloying, vivid dreams would follow him, and he'd sleep so exhausted and still that he'd wake as stiff as a board, but for now?

For now, it was the sheerest bliss, to close his eyes and finally give over command to another.
