The dark haired exorcist had been walking around for the better part of half an hour when he took shelter from the harsh sun in the shade of one of the small houses. From being in the Facility he wasn’t used to the intense heat, especially while wearing his uniform. It was almost out of defiance that he refused to take it off for the heat, unlike Komui he wasn’t going to give up being part of the Order. Especially when they were more of a family here where they were far away from the influences of Central.
He took a deep breath, wiping the sweat off his brow... when something caught his attention. Blue eyes immediately darted to the small black form that had attracted it. It was a bird, one he recognized well. Itachi’s crow.
Kanda left the shade and walked over to the small bird, crouching down and offering his hand to it. There was a slight smile on his lips as he stood, giving the crow a small scratch on the back of its head. “How long have you been watching me?”
The merciless sun didn’t seem to have an effect on the blue-black feathers of the crow that had now hopped onto the exorcists outstretched hand. It’s eyes closed, it’s beak lowered, and it was clearly enjoying the attentions. But just as it had become accustomed to Kanda’s affections, two loud squawks followed, apparently the crow wasn’t alone. Startled, it nipped at those soothing fingers before taking off, settling itself against the roof of a building joining its brothers all squawking in unison and flapping their feathers. Clearly, they wanted something.
“Hey!” He scowled and pulled his hand back, shaking it a bit to get the sting out. Kanda frowned slightly and walked over to the building the crows were perched upon. Staring up at them, he put his hands on his hips. “What is it?!” He looked around quickly, searching for something, anything to give him a clue as to what the crows were up to.
Just as Kanda had approached them and retorted for an explanation, the crows went off and perched themselves on another building. The routine repeated several times until they finally led the exorcist to a run down building. It’s old purpose used to be the Town Hall but now it was very much vacant. They flew to the steps and hopped about the partially opened door before disappearing inside.
The exorcist followed along, cursing the first few times they flew away until the pattern became quite apparent that they were leading him somewhere. His initial reaction was suspicion, but since Itachi was the only person who he knew controlled the crows, that suspicion easily slid away. It didn’t take Kanda long before he was going through the door of the Town Hall, quite interested to see what would be waiting on him when he entered. Truth be told, there was a small excitement growing inside of him. “Itachi..?” He called as he entered, looking around for his partner.
The main room was composed of dusty beaten down chairs and desks. If there had once been people here, they hadn’t bothered organizing the place before vacating it. The floor had a nice thick layer of dust that hadn’t been altered in what might have been years, and yet, there was an individual seated at the far end of the room behind a large wooden desk in a very weathered chair.
Itachi had found it by accident, his meandering had led him to the place. After some exploration, he couldn’t help but notice just how similar this place was to an old forgotten memory. He had beckoned for his exorcist and taken his proper place behind the main desk. His feet were propped on the dusty top while he idly stroked a crow that had perched itself on his knee. At Kanda’s voice, he closed his eyes thoughtfully.
“They missed you, it seems.”
Kanda smirked the instant he laid his eyes on the lounging Uchiha. Only Itachi could look like a king in a dusty building like this. He began strolling forward, scattering dirt and dust as his long coat kicked out behind him. “I know they don’t want to hear this, but I missed you more than them.” He chuckled as he got closer, the desk his feet were currently resting on reminded Kanda even further of Hope’s End.
Moving around the desk, he half-sat down on the dusty wood. He still hadn’t gotten over the fact that Itachi was here with him again. His hand moved to Iower Mugen onto the table, pushing off the ground with his feet to fully sit on the large desk. “This reminds me of that school house. Do you remember it?”
“I do.” The Uchiha responded without hesitation, his eyes opening again, red and bright despite the lighting of hall. He looked up at blue eyes. “It was why I asked them to bring you here.”
His finger continued to caress the crow before pushing him off, brushing his knee where it was previously perched and moving towards the desk where Kanda was sitting. Things were far too fragile between the two. The elaborate weave they had constructed once before had fallen short and torn. Itachi knew this, he sensed it. But nothing was irreversible- even life sprouts from the ashes of a grave, right?
“Things were different then, weren’t they?” He mused, tilting his head, his side leaning against Kanda’s knee. He wasn’t going to force the exorcist to do anything he didn’t want to do.
The exorcist watched Itachi move towards him and for the first time didn’t tense. It was more than obvious that he was truly back and wouldn’t be snatched away. It had been a more than a month now and that time had eased most of Kanda’s reservations. He tilted his head back, keeping his blue eyes on the red ones he’d missed so much.
“They were.” The side of his mouth twitched, he had been so innocent then, even he would admit it now. He was not that same person anymore. “But... well, we’re here aren’t we?” He smiles, moving his legs so Itachi could get closer to him. “I appreciate your patience... I know it’s not something you’ve enjoyed.”
Kanda’s hand moved slowly, but surely grabbed the other man’s shirt and pulled him closer. “But I’m not going to hide anymore. I’d really be a fool if I kept fighting what I want.”
The tug at his shirt sparked a grin across his features. His exorcist hadn’t acted like this with him in such a long time, it was safe to say that the Uchiha actually believed that there was some salvation to their relationship still. Truth be told, he had all ready expected the worst especially after what he saw in those eyes of his.
Itachi took a few steps forward, sliding between Kanda’s knees with ease, fingertips ghosting over thighs as he tilted his head sideways to brush his nose experimentally against the exorcists cheek. He had gone this far, who knew what could trigger the exorcist to push him away.
“You know me to well,” he spoke, low and hushed. It was just them in this hall after all, them and those three ever-watchful crows, “but there are things worth waiting for. There are situations where patience truly is a virtue.”
His thighs tensed slightly at the small sensations, and he fought the urge to move Itachi’s hands. Instead he slid both hands loosely around the Uchiha’s waist, physically showing that he wanted him to stay where he was.
Kanda turned his face to literally bump noses with his shinobi. The natural thing to do would be to kiss, but he hesitated shyly. Perhaps he wasn’t so different from that boy a few years ago. However, along with the shyness also came the butterflies. “... Are they watching us?” He looked to the side, trying to catch sight of the crows. Kanda didn’t like the feeling of being watched, especially in such a fragile moment as this.
A light chuckle escaped his lips as he turned to look at the crows still perched on one of the overhead lights. They didn’t seem to find it much of a problem to have their master courting another person while obviously watching. That was their master, after all. They saw everything he did. With a light wave, the crows squawked and headed off, disappearing into the rafters finding some exit through the holes on the roof.
“They pose no threat. A silent audience.” He mused hoping that hadn’t put off the exorcist from what he hoped to achieve. He moved back just in case.
“That doesn’t mean I want their little eyes watching us.” Kanda’s hands stopped Itachi from moving, holding the other man in place and not allowing him to move away. It did cause the exorcist’s eyebrow to raise however. One of his silent questions, Itachi had gotten rather good at reading them before.
“Take what you want, remember? Within reason.” His fingers flexed as the tips pressed against the back of his partner. Now would have been a perfect moment for Kanda to kiss his Uchiha, but he was still a little unsure as to how to go about such a tender moment. And lord knew, he didn’t want to mess it up. He did however open himself up for Itachi do so, if he so wished. “You’re eyes are beautiful, you know...”
The Uchiha rose a brow, tilting his head at the comment. Although the compliment was appreciated he felt the context was misplaced. Why would the exorcist need to praise him now? This was the point where action spoke louder than words. He moved a hand from one of those thighs he was mildly holding to bring some strands of Kanda’s long hair that was tied back over the exorcists shoulders. He pulled.
“Are you going to kiss me or will I have to kiss you.” He tugged again. “Patience is a virtue that shouldn’t be tested.”
Kanda was confused at first, it was something he had often said to the Uchiha. Those red eyes were in his dreams countless times in his lover’s absence, wishing he’d be able to gaze into them again as he was now. The fingers in his hair wasn’t an unusual occurrence, though the soft tug almost caused him to jump and made flush slightly.
Once he recovered, he stared at the older man and smiled softly. Blue eyes flicked between the Uchiha’s eyes and his lips. Licking his own, he swallowed and spoke softly. “Meet me halfway.” He moved his head forward, lining himself up with his lover’s lips. The last thing he needed was to miss and kiss his chin.
Itachi didn’t have to hesitate. He saw the other lining up their faces and he found it amusing, such a beginner’s thing to do. A hand came up to hold Kanda’s cheek before leaning forward and kissing him, lips brushing against the others in chaste affection.
The finger’s holding onto Kanda’s hair pulled again, a little rougher. He didn’t hesitate to twist his long fingers over every strand, enjoying the softness, the length, and the moans it was bound to make from the exorcist.
Once their lips were touching, all Kanda’s shy hesitations melted away. He pressed his lips into the kiss, he was hungry from something more than just a brush of lips and right now he was brave enough to take it. His hands traveled to the small of the Uchiha’s back, pulling him even closer.
The tugging on the exorcist’s long dark hair did exactly what the Uchiha had been expecting. A soft rumble of a moan escaped his lips between kisses. On one particularly hard tug, he gasped and allowed his lips to stay parted. A pink tongue licked at his lips, diving back in to kiss his lover with a bit more passion.
There would be no complaints from the Uchiha as the exorcist pulled him closer. He had made it a point to be patient, it had been such a long time for the exorcist. Fortunately, whatever grace the fates had left for him, they had offered it in the form of a very wanting man of blue eyes and long black hair. Perfection. A dead man couldn’t ask for much, it was a good bargain.
After a few more minutes of passionate affection, he finally pulled back filling his lungs with the air Kanda had so greedily stolen. He tilted his head back for a moment, licking his lips and savoring the taste.
“Nostalgia. I forgot how good it tasted.”
“You have no idea.” Kanda smirked, laughing softly as he took in a few breaths himself. His fingers flexed slightly, massaging the muscles of the Uchiha’s middle back. He couldn’t count how many times he had dreamt of something like this, having Itachi back, sharing something so intimate as a kiss between partners. He had missed feeling that love.
The exorcist leaned forward again, kissing the other man softly of his own accord. Sliding to the edge of the desk he pressed himself against his lover. “I’m glad that you’re back.” He nibbled on the Uchiha’s bottom lip, gazing into his eyes. They had definitely overcome something. Baby-steps to getting back to how they were. But even this small progress helped to mend what had snapped in the exorcist.
The massaging hands on his back made for long exhales as the tension in the area diminished. Red eyes closed momentarily as he tilted forward, allowing the exorcist to pull him closer to him in an intimate hold, feeling as if Kanda was trying to claim what the consortium had taken before. Eyes finally opened once their affections turned into hot and heavy kisses. He took a long inhale as the end of his lips cured upwards.
“You really did miss me.” He commented, feeling himself out of breath. It had been quite sometime that the exorcist had actually done something like that. There had never been a problem with eagerness but passion was something the two had barely begun to explore. This was quite a step.
“Of course I did. I said so, didn’t I?” He smirked, far more confidant now than he had been at the beginning of this meeting. He kept his hold on the Uchiha, even when they weren’t actively engaged in kissing each other. He knew at any point that the Consortium could snatch his love away from him again, but he as beginning to realize that holding on to that fear was indeed foolish. Especially when it kept such a large wall between them.
“I will not live in fear. It’s not my way. I will enjoy your company for as long as I am allowed it.” Kanda’s blue eyes sparked with his confession, no longer were they dull and dead. He had overcome his fear. Damn the Consortium and that infernal robot to hell, they would not control him anymore. “Let’s stay here for a while.”
