Needless to say, Azrael wasn’t surprised. He had to ask if he was not usually what he appeared to be. In fact, he was almost glad he had asked. He wanted to know if he should try and be who he always had been, or if he should keep pretending. Fortunately, he discovered that as he normally is, his personality had not changed. It was just his appearance and his history. He was not normally an angel who had assimilated from Pagan religion into that of Christianity. But he was always the god he claimed he had once been. He wasn’t really that upset to discover this. He really was relieved that he kept finding himself regarding himself as the god, Thanatos, still. It was oddly comforting to call himself that, instead of Azrael, at times.

He remembered how when he first arrived here, that he had asked the entire facility to kill him. Whoever he had been when he first arrived at the facility believed that if he died, this would all stop, and he could prevent the world from ending. Azrael could see what he meant by that-had the current him been in that position. Obviously, his normal self had not succeeded, otherwise no one would be here. A part of him reasoned that maybe if he had attempted it again-this time as one of the Lord’s angels-it might work. After all, Azrael was supposed to be the last being to die. Perhaps he could negate this universe if he had to. It was a relatively good idea. And frankly? He was content with it. If this was not who he normally was, then why would his dying be a problem?

However, the problem was getting himself killed. He highly looked down on suicide. It was one of the few deaths that he felt it was his job to descend to Earth on his own in order to collect the souls. But he detested the idea of killing oneself. What could a human struggle with so much that they could not hold on until God decided it was their time instead? The idea that quickly began to pulse through the angel’s mind pained him. It was perhaps the only way he could test this theory out.

Gabriel.

Although his elder brother, the archangel, was gold collared and had none of his angelic power this week, he still might be able to kill him. If he asked, he might be alright with it. But Azrael knew how Gabriel was secretly loyal to family. It would be hard to do, but maybe if he convinced his brother that it was for the greater good, he could wrestle out acceptance from him. He could feel the pain within his chest as he thought about asking him, and he figured it would be the only way he could go through with this.

Maybe he felt guilty that it would be an unfair balance. The collar to return his power had returned to Azrael on Thursday night. He had a method to bribe Gabriel if he had to, he supposed. But it was still the matter of asking his brother, whom he loved, and was loved by in return, that he needed to be killed by him. He thought it might be better if Azrael just…started things off by not asking him to commit the act. Maybe some playful fraternal banter.

Yeah. Maybe that would work.

And then not respecting any personal boundaries, Azrael invaded his brother’s privacy and flew himself into Gabriel’s room, with a pathetic little smile on his lips.
