A soft rustle suddenly broke through the calm atmosphere as a figure moved behind several tall bushes on the other side of the pond. After several long moments a light-haired woman emerged, a perplexed expression on her face as she took in her surroundings. Both hands were clutched in her large skirts, lifting them off the ground as she walked.

Kanda straightened instantly at the sudden sound, his eyes setting into a glare as he swept his gaze along the trees. When they settled on the woman however, they instantly widened. It was.. no, it couldn't be. It had been such a long time since he last saw that ghostly form he almost didn't recognize her. Almost.

For once, he was dumbstruck. Blue eyes stared at the woman, his hand still clenched on Mugen and ready to draw but his killer intent wasn't there.

She took a few more steps before turning and catching sight of Kanda, wide blue eyes flicking between his face and his sword. She tensed, as if ready to flee, but there was no fear in her face. Their uniforms were different, but there was no mistaking the rose cross on Kanda's chest.

"... Exorcist?"

His hand let go of the hilt of his sword almost awkwardly as he nodded. "Yes..." Kanda looked her up and down, her clothes did vaguely resemble something of a uniform, but it wasn't one he recognized right away. He took a small step forward, getting close to the edge of the pond. "How did you know...?"

Her expression lightened a bit, and she loosed a small sigh and a little smile, flipping her collar out of the way to reveal the patch on her own clothes. "Only an exorcist would wear the rose cross and carry a weapon like that."

She didn't move, when he did, instead just watching him.

"... Do you know where this is? I think I've managed to get myself lost."

Kanda nearly let his usual straight look soften, there was something about this woman that was familiar. He thought the same when he was young. "You're right. I wasn't aware you were an exorcist." He blinked, giving her a curious look. "Have you seen Mugen before...?"

He frowned, even he knew it was an odd question. But what the hell was he supposed to say? "We're in a strange city, Gotham I believe." His hand went back to his sword, but just to fiddle with the ring and tassels on the butt of the hilt.

"Do you need hel-" Kanda took another step forward, not realizing he had run out of ground and stumbled head over heels into the cold water.

"No, I haven- Look out!" She stepped forward and threw out a hand toward Kanda, but it was all too late to keep him from splashing into the water.

Stepping carefully to the edge of the pond, she stood with one hand over her mouth, a smile in her eyes.

"Are you alright?"

Kanda flailed a bit until he was sitting upright in the chest-deep water. He reached up to pull the wet pony tail out of his face as he muttered swears under his breath. "Fine."

He looked up at her, if she were Allen he'd pull her in with him without a second thought. But, he wanted some answers out of her and doing that would probably make that impossible. Instead he took her hand and used it to pull himself from the pond.

"Do you... know me by any chance?"

She stepped back quickly when Kanda stood, avoiding splashing droplets of water and holding that half-suppressed smile.

"I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't. Have we met?"

He picked up the bottom of his coat and began ringing it out back into the pond. "I.. you just look familiar is all."

Frowning, he took off his coat and slung it over his arm. "What's your name?"

She reached up to brush a few stray hairs from her face as he fiddled with his coat.

"I'm Alma."

Kanda's head jerked up. "Alma?" A black brow rose as he looked her up and down. There was definitely not mistaking the fact that she was indeed a woman, but his Alma had always been shy of his name. "Alma.. what?"

Alma raised an eyebrow to match, a somewhat comical expression of confusion rather similar to many Kanda's seen before. Though older.

"... Karma. Are you sure we haven't met?"

Kanda stared at her, a million thoughts racing through his water-logged brain. He saw that exact same expression not even a day ago. Hell, he'd just left that expression back in the building.

"... Not officially..." He was almost afraid to look away from her. If he did she might disappear like her ghost used to. "Did you know a Yu Kanda..?"

That response only made her brow lift higher, something like suspicion filtering through her expression.

"I do... How do you know him?"

His fists clenched, this was getting more awkward by the second.

"Would you believe that.. I share the same name?" Kanda was at a loss. He had no idea what to say to this woman and she probably thought he was crazy. Though, he wasn't exactly sold on who she was either.
