They wanted him dead, all of them. He had heard it all quite clearly. Obviously he’d suspected it from the beginning, that none of them could abide having a filthy, useless half-breed in their midst, that they were all just pretending to tolerate him, but now he’d overtly heard them all talking about it, and it was clearly only a matter of time before they came for him. He had to think of something...there were too many of them for him to take out, and some where a lot stronger than he was, but he couldn’t just sit back and do nothing while they were planning to eradicate him...

"Hey kid! What're you thinking about?"

‘Don’t give me that,’ he spat, hand edging towards the hilt of his sword even though he knew it was pointless, ‘I know they sent you here...but I’m not gonna let them do it...I won’t fucking let you kill me...’

Asura opened his arms wide, gesturing to the wilderness in general, as if he conducting a silent and invisible orchestra. "Feh~ You think that I'd be a part of anything like that? And here I thought you knew me better than that."
Reply
‘...I suppose not...’ he responded tentatively, still watching the other carefully, attempting to discern any hint that he was lying.

"You should know by now that I'm an exceptional man. Whenever there are rules, I'm always the exception. Ke-ke." Asura's tone was quite jovial and friendly-as if he was a favourite uncle talking to his nephew. "People are out to kill, or maybe they aren't. There's the chance they are, and that's bad enough, right? You afraid, kid?"

He shifted edgily where he stood when the other brought up the matter of the plot against him; so he knew about it...he must have heard the whispering too. Well, why wouldn’t he? They were all being so blatantly obvious about it...not even trying to hide the fact that they were ll out to get him.
‘Obviously I’m not scared!’ he spat defensively in response to Asura’s question, though he hesitated for just a moment before continuing...there was no point in lying, really...not to him...and he sounded so amicable... ‘Well...maybe. Just a bit...’

Whistling his amused whistle, he looked away from Darc, at the sky. "But there's a few people around here who I know aren't. The people in my shadow."

However, moments later he found himself blinking as Asura suggested that there were some people out there who weren’t in on the plan, and the look that crossed his face was caught somewhere between scepticism and hopefulness. Even if there were just a few people left who hadn’t turned against him, it would make it just a little bit easier to bear...
‘There are?’ he questioned warily, hating the sound of hopefulness in his voice, but he was unable to prevent it from creeping in.

"And I'm gathering up other exceptional people. We're all on the same side in my shadow, Darc."

‘What do you mean, ‘in your shadow…? What would I have to do?’

The scarf around his face unwrapped half way, a smile on his face.
"It's nothing too hard. You just have to accept your madness and walk with me. Everyone is after me too-so we'll all pitch inand protect ourselves."

"Don't you think being insane is the only choice when the world is against you? It frees your mind. You can think in ways people never expect. It makes you strong. And if you're going to survive, you'll need strength, right?"

He tilted his head to the side slightly, listening careful to what Asura was saying...and it did make a kind of sense, didn’t it? The words resonated with him, and reminded him of what the man had said to him on another occasion...if he just let go of reason, he’d be free to do whatever he wanted...
‘Yeah...I do need strength,’ he conceded with a nod, ‘and you’re saying if I just give in to this feeling, and agree with you that I’m insane, that I’ll get it?’

"Just join in with my shadow. You'll love it."
