Who: Jade Harley and Tavros Nitram When: Thursday morning Where: All over Venice! Summary: Jade wants a puppy. Tavros wants to help. Dog hunting ensues. And ends poorly. Rating: PG
Tavros had received the directions to this Mystery Bench in question, of course, but he most likely would have gotten lost due to his own idiocy and incompetence if it weren't for the magical bag of fruits and dog fun. Mostly the fruits part though. For some reason, Tavros had been getting quite the keen sense when it came to tracking down fruits he liked. At the same time he had been learning how to understand romance, no less! Quite a mysterious coincidence fueled by this bag of mystery on this bench of mystery. So spooky
( ... )
Jade set down her bag on the bench next to her for long enough to give her dorky bullpal a little hug! She opened the bag and pulled out a bright red apple, offering it to her friend with a smile.
"Uh-huh! This will be a lot of fun, I hope~ And I have snacks and things for if it takes a while."
She stretched and closed the bag again, standing up. "I've seen a lot of really cute dogs around but most of thm were too skittish to be easy to bring back... So we need to find a really friendly or happy one!!!"
The bullpal gave Jade an awkward little pat on the back during the hug; he's... he's really not good at these hug things. He never has been. But his human friend was clearly too cheery to care about his insecurities, 'cause god damn, that apple she gave him is delicious. He nibbled it, feeling some kind of hussy (but wasn't quite sure why.)
"OK," he took a peek into the bag before Jade closed it up again. "N-nice! You, err, have a pretty big haul."
He stood up next to her. "Uuuh. I guess, as I've been walking over here, I've seen a couple of cute dogs too. They were really... uhh..."
He doesn't know how to tell her that two of the dogs were boning constantly and the other dog was trying to eat a rat. He munched his apple with a sigh.
Jade happily watched Tavros eat his apple. It was the reddest, most delicious looking one she could find!! She knew she'd find another fruit for him to like someday, avocados wouldn't last him forever.
"Yeah, they are really just everywhere!! I know somewhere out there is the right puppy for me."
With a cheerful nod and a gesture to follow behind her, Jade set off into the city proper, walking between buildings and admiring the sights.
Tavros still loves them damn avocados, but... jeez, this apple. It's perfect in nearly every way, even if it is kind of rough on the outside. It's a shame that the avocados probably don't like him back. Moving on to apples like this makes him feel pretty sad, but also pretty happy, and really it's all just one confusing mixed metaphor because how can fruit like you back its just fuckin fruit.
"Uh-huh, we'll find him, or her, unless they are really really playful, and like snacks too much."
He took off after Jade, staring up at the sky as he did so. Man, the sun! He couldn't believe they're seriously in the sun. It was so nice and warm! If only Alternia had been like this.
"So, uuuh, where do you want to look first, and, also," he suddenly tripped over his own foot, faceplanting the ground. But he stood up like nothing happened and kept talking.
"... and, also, what type of dog are you interested in? Uuh, it probably can't be too big, or we won't be able to take it back with us."
Jade just kind of stared at Tavros as he ate his apple with a look of utter bliss on his face. Fruit is delicious!!! She loves fruit. But this was just getting weird, the way his eyes were glazed over with utter euphoria and a little bit of drool dripped out of the corner of his mouth. She adjusted one of her reminders so she could remember never to give Tavros a mandarin orange at the expense of forgetting about Rose's birthday again.
The sun was very bright! Jade basked in it, happy to finally be in an environment closer to her island again and not in the drab Facility or the smoggy Abyss. This was just nice!! ...And then Tavros fell over. And got right back up. She took this entirely in stride.
"Um, something smallish, yeah!! Um..." She glanced at a nearby stray, a reasonably-sized puppy. "Maybe one like that!! Only not that one because it is eating that pigeon."
But a lot of the bliss on his face had dipped into worry. His brows were furrowed as he stared at the delicious golden insides of the crispy meal, as the delicious juice in his throat melted like guilt. Juice. Apple juice. How could he forget such a thing! Apple juice!!! What's he doing, using apple juice as a metaphor for someone entirely different to apple juice? The connotations of this fruit was suddenly attached two people at once. He glared at Jade for pulling such a mean and confusing prank on him.
But then he realized she really probably does just like fruit so he stopped being retarded.
"Th, that one is eating that pigeon. That dog. That is what that dog is doing right there."
He stared at it, and suddenly threw the apple into some trash. Metaphors aside, that... that just killed his appetite. Gross.
"OK. Umm..." He turned down an alley and patrolled it with Jade by his side. "Maybe, uuh, I will find an animal, or something, for myself, as well. Fefairy found one too."
"Maybe!!! Maybe there'll be a, um, monkey??" She shrugged. "Or something!! I hope you find somethin--"
She suddenly stopped, holding her hand out in front of Tavros so he'd stop too. There, at the end of the alley, was a pack of six dogs. Just kind of. Milling around for scraps.
This was way more than silly: this was troll romance.
"... A monkey would be really..." Tavros didn't know if he liked that idea or not. Sure, he had Fregulape back at home, but still, a real life, not green pasta monkey? ... They probably don't even live in Venice.
He nearly tripped and faceplanted again when Jade stopped, but he managed to cling to her hand before anything bad happened.
