Himura Kenshin Versus Kanda Yu memorizethefire April 28 2010, 13:49:11 UTC
Re: Himura Kenshin Versus Kanda Yu sakabatou_user April 28 2010, 19:39:23 UTC
The gear was unfamiliar and odd--and examining the blue 'bat', Kenshin figured they couldn't actually HURT each other with them... But as had been explained, the point wasn't to protect the combatants, but was instead to knock the target balls off of each other. Ok...so not much different than practicing hits on a training dummy. He could do that; Shishou had used him as a dummy often enough, and after his years as a hitokiri--bodies as nothing but target-spots was not a new concept.

So, in the unfamiliar gear, Kenshin took a few practice swings and carefully gauged the 'bat' and how it moved, what it felt like, what it weighed...before holding it to the side and bowing at his opponent, almost formal but for a slight grin. This was...so SILLY...

It took a little bit of convincing before Kanda even put on the ridiculous gear. And was NOT happy about it. His normal dower face was even more frowny as he was now covered in white balls.

"... We seriously have to wear these?" He groaned.

Kanda did much as Kenshin did, swinging the bat around and testing his grip. Once he was satisfied, he reached back to test the tie in his ponytail, making sure it was tight. The last thing he needed was his hair escaping mid-fight... like it tended to do most of the time anyway.

Kenshin's own hair had a tendency to come loose too often as well, but he had long ago stopped caring and avoided the high-ponytail, as it was too much tied to his past as Battousai. Privately, he agreed with Kanda's assessment of their 'gear', noting that the red of the target-balls on his own gear clashed horribly with his hair and clothing.

Not to be helped though. Hopefully the game would be fun, at least...

After their bow, Kenshin took the bat in both hands and focused, taking a proper kenjutsu stance of readiness. The collars limited all abilities, but the slighter man focused all the same. Eyes narrowed slightly, grin gone and replaced by a more serious expression.

Link frowned more heavily than usual as he stepped into the fighting area, obviously highly annoyed with particular equipment required for this tournament. He'd been tempted to back out complete, it was that ridiculous, but then Allen would never let him hear the end of it.

... And he'd be lying if he tried to say he wasn't looking forward to an opportunity to face off with the exorcist on even ground. No Innocence and no magic, just Link's martial skills versus Allen's oddly effective form of brawling.

Weapon in hand (as if it could really be called that), Link fell into his own fighting stance. "When you're ready, Walker."

Roxas waited by the impromptu ring they'd created, the nearest thing he'd get to a grin on his face. It was really nice to be doing something like this again. He didn't know the opponents as well, maybe, but it would still be fun to do. The helmet and outfits Sora had created had prompted a lot of laughter as Roxas struggled into it, feeling nostalgic.

Now adrenaline had him pumped up and he was brimming with energy, hefting the makeshift bat back and forth.

That near-grin on Roxas' face is just about the opposite of Tasuki's expression. The bandit scowls at Axel once more, tugging at the vest irritably. There had been no mention of vests or balls or anything -just bats and beating on people with them. The fact that he was going to be up against Axel's little boyfriend didn't make him feel anymore confident about this. In fact it made him a little nervous. "Fastest person he knew" Axel had said and this kid was more than a decade younger than him -Sweet Suzaku he really is getting old.

He twirled the bat in his right hand, getting a feel for the weight of it, or lack thereof. Then he passed it to his left hand, judging whether or not the lessened weight would make it any easier for him to wield but he just didn't have enough strength in his left hand to keep the grip on it. So he just tosses it back to his right hand and flashes Roxas a cocky smirk.

"Alrigh, kid. Let's do this, eh?"

"Sure," Roxas agreed, falling stepping into the makeshift ring and falling into his proper fighting stance. Knees bend, both hands gripping the bat, which was hefted to the side as he tensed, focusing on Tasuki across from him. It looked like his left side- at least his left hand- was weak, so Roxas could go for that and maybe get some good hits in. He was taller, but a lot of Roxas' opponents had been bigger than him.

Some a lot bigger, he thought with a tiny, wry smile. Someone whose chest he came up to would be no problem, especially if he was as uncomfortable in the judging outfit as he looked.

Smirking to himself, Roxas glanced at Axel, waiting for the signal to begin.

Sai stared at the shoddy ring.

And stared.

And stared.

He wondered if he could use very large snakes to make a better ring, one that was efficient and didn't look so.... he poked at the ring, surprised it didn't crumble.

He was dressed in the outfit he was instructed to wear, and his weapon was on the ground next to him. He would remain this way, scrutinizing the disgraceful enclosed area, until his opponent arrived.

Still spattered with dried blue pigment on his elbows and knees, Jet proudly stepped into the ring to greet his opponent. He remembered the other man only slightly; and truth be told, it wasn't exactly from a good conversation they were having, but that left no reason for grudges. Besides, Jet had been having a great week, he wasn't about to let one unpleasant experience ruin his chances for a little relaxing sparring.

The outfit did feel a little silly, but Jet wasn't one to complain. After the Consortium left him without ANY clothes TWICE now, he certainly felt little shame in the get-up. Although, given Jet's normal choice for clothing, one might wonder if he ever felt any shame in his appearance to begin with.

Jet looked around scratching his head with the bat in hand.
"I'm a dual weapon fighter; don't suppose they'd give me two of these?-"

But he notices there isn't even enough supplies for that.

"No? Ah well"

He cheerfully turns to greet his opponent instead.

"Hey there. You must be Sai then, lets have a great match, Okay

Upon sensing the new arrival, Sai gave him one of his practiced smiles. He had been waiting for him. Like him, he wore the outfit Axel had given them, not that Sai knew it looked ridiculous. It was an outfit, though he didn't like how restrictive it was compared to his normal attire. He was more flexible with less clothing, not that he wasn't about to complain.

He let the boy get acquainted with the area as well as the equipment in silence, until he was greeted.

"Hello, Jet-san," he greeted the other, remembering his name from that long ago encounter he'd had with him, not that he knew he had said anything wrong, he never really knew when he said something wrong unless they told him, explicitly and with an explanation.

"Yes, let's have a great match," he repeated the greeting, finding it much easier than coming up with his own.

He picked up his own weapon he'd left on the ground, and walked to the middle of the ring, bowing respectfully like he would at a dojo.

He was tired. Muscles ached from last night's failed attempt at a rescue mission but the warm water of the shower had loosened them up a bit and when it had turned cold on him it had woken him from the near-sleep he'd been in.

Expertly he twirled the bat he'd carved together with Allen, glad to see that they were indeed covered in the lovely blue fabric he had taken the time to dye. And while the outfit wasn't magnetic by any means it was very well done and the sight of the little balls made him smile widely.

Blue eyes looked up at his opponent, giving her a smile as well.

"Ready Usagi?"

Usagi was likewise worn out from the failed effort, but that was more emotional than anything else. Having friends around and working together, however, made her feel a lot stronger.

Having put on the red outfit, she returned the smile and nodded. "Yes!"

[ooc: See this. I APOLOGIZE TO THE WOOOORLD!]

The foam bat was held out in his normal fighting stance, and he charged forward aiming for one of the red balls hanging from Usagi's vest. He wanted to test Usagi's skills before deciding a tactic, and he was moving slow enough that anyone with sword handling skills could block him.
