Who: Yagami Light, L Lawliet
Where: Second floor, L's room
When: Just after Mello's post
Summary: Time's up. The inevitable has happened, and Light's instinct is to let it go no further.
Rating: PG
Warnings:

The breath had gone out of him by the time he reached the second floor, and while it wasn't particularly refined of him, Light couldn't bring himself particularly to care. Certainly not everyone on the network could read what was in many ways not even a confession - a few words 'let's not play this game any longer', but it didn't matter. The damage had been done. It had been done early this week -- no, before he'd even got here. The secret had never been his to keep, and because of it, he had been playing on the back foot while everyone else was permitted to laugh at his attempts to cover his footsteps.

No more. He would not play the game as Yagami Light any more. They wanted Kira, so he would play as Kira.

And that meant confronting L. Not over the phone, like a coward, but in person. Confronting him face to face, letting him the truth when he could look into his eyes as he did so, telling the glorious truth.

He was justice. He was Kira. And here, where there was nobody to punish him for that; where nobody could put him away for what was only noble, he was actively free to be what he was. No secrets. There was nothing L could do about it.

He collected himself, straightened his tie, and knocked.

"It's Light."

light yagami, l
