An explanation was overdue at this point. If Kakashi didn't tell Obito everything, someone else would and chances were high that that someone would not be who should.
The last thing Kakashi wanted was Obito hearing a messed-up version of the story from certain family members of his. Madara would definitely paint Kakashi a villain, claiming he stole the Sharingan or something equally condemning.
It'd be better to tell him as soon as possible.
With this in mind, he knocked on Obito's door, hoping his teammate was in.
