Who: Kouichi and Shikamaru

Where: The Hotel
Summary: Shikamaru comes to comfort Kouichi, as well as meet some important people from the immortal's past.

Shikamaru moved through the streets at an even pace. Taking one last pull from his cigarette, he dropped it to the ground outside the hotel and crushed it under one foot before heading inside and for the stairs.
"You really should quit, you know," came a low voice from behind him.
Shikamaru glanced over one shoulder, smirking a little at the taller man following him. The height difference wasn't as extreme as it had once been, but Asuma still had a good seven or eight inches on him... or he had before... This was all so complicated. The Nara had given up trying to convince himself that what he was seeing wasn't real. Asuma was little more than a ghost here. Even if this was a hallucination, even if this was all just the Consortium using his own memories against him... it was turning out to be a comfort. To finally be able to talk to someone about Asuma... even if it was Asuma himself. Certainly better than the last set of hallucinations.
"Says the man never seen without one," Shikamaru replied quietly. He'd been enjoying the time he'd been given with his sensei, but he was also very careful to keep their interactions in public to a minimum. He'd taken great pains so far to keep information of Konoha's future a secret, especially this, and especially from Ino. It would be nothing but unneeded suffering. Asuma had been very understanding of this when Shikamaru had explained, and he'd kept himself invisible to everyone but Sasuke so far...
Shikamaru stopped in front of the door to the room he and Kouichi had shared the last time they'd been in Hope's End, turning to his eternally-smoking sensei once more. "Give me a minute, huh?," he said, nodding his thanks as Asuma consented to wait in the hallway for the moment before opening the door and poking his head in. "Kouichi?"
