[coping mechanism is a go. And this experiment is helping how? Well for starters, as Dean now remembers his own life story- ...we might want to start at the beginning.
Dean and his brother Sam were born into a seemingly normal childhood. Little did they know, mommy dearest was a meister who had left the life because she wanted to be normal with her human lover John. She abandoned her family and her partner to be with him. Things seemed to be going well until a witch killed Dean and Sams mother. His brother, an infant, and him still unable to do multiplication followed their father around America. (here is where the major revisions to the hunters story begin) His family was taken in by the DWMA for protection. His father, revenge happy, forced Dean and Sam to work on their own abilities. Both Dean and Sam were born meisters, although Sam was somewhat polluted by madness and thus found it hard to excel. Dean however, loved being a meister and trained hard under his fathers supervision. But his father was too eager for revenge, and while Sam had run away from home to go to a normal school and normal college like his mother, Dean and John went after witches prematurely. Sam returned when Dean went begging for help, and the two managed to find their father, but it was too late. John had been killed. Sam stayed in Death City with Dean to make sure his brother was alright. However, Sam, being a failed experiment by one witch, was kidnapped. Dean in order to save his brother, sacrificed himself, thus being caught and tortured by the same witch. A weapon named Castiel managed to save Dean after his family ordered him to help Sam close in tow for the saving. (His very very very big family- and all their family issues) Castiel was not as excelled as a weapon as some of his brothers and Dean was without a permanent partner. (he'd been through quite a few that all had ended up dead or....gone) So, and after lots of convincing, he persuaded Castiel to be his weapon. Soon after the two returned to Death City and Dean became an instructor while Castiel did most the teaching. (Sam was still around, helping Dean do anything but teaching- or...encouraging him by trying to discourage him.) The two made a fabulous team with Sam and the retired meister Bobby as their third and fourth musketeers. That is, until Castiel, intent on getting better than his brothers in hopes of stopping the violence, betrayed Dean. Dean, who had been denying any sign of this long before it happened, was hurt badly. Now he arrived in facility not long after, with a Castiel who (as he remembers it) was taken from before his betrayal only to die. His brother was also brought here and killed and so- here we are, present day with meister Dean and all his issues.
So a few big pieces are missing. Dean didn't have to worry about his brother falling into hell for a year or going souless, he didn't get a year off with Lisa.....in fact that solid two year frame is completely wiped from his memory. But the essence is still there. Dean now stands in his house with a couple hundred empty beer bottles, looking around bewildered. Was it mentioned that Dean has a couple alterations....like his drinking, while not invisible, has severely lessened thanks to shibusen discipline. It only lessened his life experience with it, not annihilated it. Dean raised his brows and scratched his head.]
No wonder I have a headache.
[He sighs and looks around the room]
Cas.
[Although he didn't say it, the words were obvious on his face 'why does everyone end up gone?' - it was an expression of hopeless exhaustion and unyielding despair. How could he be expected to go on. Sure, he gave Sam the 'suck it up' pep talk a thousand times, but here he was being hypocritical. But honestly, how does one pick themselves up from all that?...When you've been tortured by witches for 4 years, dont you at least get to keep someone? This time, even Sam was gone.]
Guess I better get this cleaned up.
[Dean went around the room, slowly picking up bottles....despite how badly he felt like plopping in front of the t.v. and watching something loud and with tons of explosions]
