82 Maka Albarn [Video]

Feb 12, 2012 14:50

[Maka is sitting on the bed of her new apartment room, looking very uneasy but otherwise normal.]

What is the experiment this week? I've been trying to figure it out but-[She pauses and looks distracted. Grumbling under her breath, she concentrates for a moment and then focuses again.]

Alex Mercer, we need to talk. [She seems more frustrated than ( Read more... )

What about?

[Not that he can't guess what this is about, kind of hard to not notice the sudden activity in his head where there shouldn't be any.]

Did someone accuse me of something again?

This is your fault. [Did that sound sulky? Because it was completely not sulky.]

What did you do.

I didn't do anything Maka, I don't control the experiments.

[This is like walking through a minefield...]

That said, I can hazard a guess as to what's going on.

By all means, please explain.

[Pause.]

It's just the experiment, right? It'll only last a week? [She does her best to keep the fear out of her voice.]

It should, there's a cure for it and the Consortium likely had one on standby in case I ever got any ideas. Val would keep it on hand without a doubt. [Never mind that he's told her a cure almost killed him once.]

It's not so bad, just don't bleed on anything or anyone, or otherwise transfer fluids to others. I'm not sure what would happen if you did, but better safe than sorry.

[She doesn't even care as long as a cure exists.]
Okay.

What do I need to know? [She has several questions but this one has to come first.] What sort of changes should I expect I mean.

Besides the obvious things? Your senses are going to be sharper and you might get certain urges around others, but as long as you eat regularly that shouldn't be an issue. As for anything else.

[He pauses momentarily.]

Well it'll depend on how far along you are what other changes you have, plus the fact that you're a teenager might complicate matters. If you can stop by later we can figure out just how far you're affected, and maybe do something about blocking off your mind while we're at it.

Blocking it off? There's a way to make it stop? [Thank goodness, she felt like she was about to go insane. She doesn't even comment on that eating regularly thing.] Okay...I can come by...[There's a heavy pause before she speaks again.]

...why did this happen to me.

If there wasn't I would've never had a moment's peace. It's quick to fix, so nothing to be too concerned about.

I have a theory about this... but it's just a theory, let me think on it a little.

Okay.

[She doesn't have anything to say to that and responds with silence. Over all, she's done a pretty good job of repressing her panic and terror at the whole thing but this is the one question that makes her start to feel sick.]

[The silence is responded to in kind with more silence for more than a minute. It's eventually broken by a sigh.]

Everything and everyone tend to need to be with others of their kind. A dog will prefer the company of another dog to a cat for example. People are kind of like that too, they form their social groups with like minded or physically similar people, I'm sure even you might prefer the company of another meister over others from time to time. Everyone feels the need to have someone that can relate to them and understand them because they share something in common.

[He pauses to give her time to digest that.]

Even when there were others that were intelligent they weren't exactly the same, let alone sane. If things are what I think they are then you're the first human with a pure strain and the only sane one not out to kill me... although depending on how mad you are I could be wrong. Regardless, do you catch the point?

[It all makes perfect sense. In fact. she's sure it wouldn't bother her at all.

Except his shadow had wanted this. To better control her.]

I'm not mad. [Scared. Confused. Trying not to read any deeper into this, but not mad.]

That's a relief at least, still I'm sorry this happened to you.

There should be no negative side-effects, just some minor things that will take getting used to. For now minding your strength around others is all you should have to worry about.

[He can't see the broken chair she is staring at as he says that, but she nods in understanding.]

Yeah I figured that out.

I should have expected that. Other than that try not to think too hard about your appearance, especially your clothes. You might uh, [he chuckles quietly], end up with more layers by accident, if not in a completely different outfit.

As long as you avoid experimenting and just go about everything normally you can take your time in coming over. However if anything starts acting up call me immediately, okay?

Oh...okay.

I think it'll be better if I come and see you now.
