Komui Lee || [video]

[Komui's standing in a clearing in his avalanche of a room, wrapped up tight in many layers. The room is being lit by strings of bare bulbs connected to a whirring battery pack. On the floor beside him is a tool that was once one of his overly-large drills, but now resembles a beefed-up nightmare of a jackhammer, half the length of his bed.]

If you can get down to 3A before the water gets too cold I'll put aside a cup for you.

[She doesn't even bother to reply. She's moving out of her room at a rather brisk pace and turning the corner to get to this promised coffee. After all, you can't go into battle without a cup of something.

Once in front of the door she knocks soundly. She's still in what she arrived in, blanket draped over her shoulders like a shawl.]

[A tall, skinny and far-too-happy Chinese man opens the door, a steaming beaker in hand]

Hello! Welcome in! The coffee's on the desk, but if you kick your own path through don't knock the bulbs.

[He pulls back slightly and what he means becomes clear: His floor is awash with books, paper, mechanical parts and clothing with just a few narrow paths cleared from bed to desk to door]

Not one for free space, are we?

[She's just teasing. The Doctor's room was often just as messy as this one, so she's used to it.

Jenny carefully picks her way through the mess to reached the coffee.]

I'm gonna go on a limb and assume you make weapons.

[Mmmmmm, coffee. She can't even express how amazing this is. It's only been a few days without, but when you're detoxing from a lack of alcohol, coffee is the mana of the gods.]

Weapons, robots, fine clothing... I'm something of an all-round genius.

Komui Lee.

[She took his hand, giving it a firm shake.]

Jenny Sparks, and you make one hell of a cup of coffee Koumi.

A pleasure to meet you, Jenny. I should hope it's decent, even if it isn't the blend I prefer, I've had years of practice brewing.

Am I right in guessing you're an Englishwoman? I lived in your country for a years when I was back in my time.

I am.

[She took a drink from the coffee.]

Though I spent a lot of time dealing with America recently.

I can imagine he's a bit of a handful to deal with, all that enthusiasm and not much behind it. Have you seen him here yet. He's up in suite 26.

[A brow shot up questioningly.]

You mean the president? Yeah, he's a real handful.

[She was pretty sure she wasn't entirely following.]

[It takes him half a moment to realise where he's gone wrong]

Of course you wouldn't mean what I'm thinking. The personified spirit of America lives on the floor above. He's been here for long enough it's normal to hear people speaking of "cooking for America" or "Dealing with America" when referring to him.

Ah ...

[That just sounded weird. A living personification of America? She supposed she shouldn't be too surprised. They'd seen weirder in their own group. Not to mention that she, herself was the living embodiment of the twentieth century.]

And I'm assuming this America is as much a pain in the ass as his country?

From what I've heard history makes quite a few large turns between my time and what I guess is yours, from the clothing. He's optimistically short-sighted.

I've been around for a long time Koumi. You'd be surprised how much I've watched America change.
